Position Summary
A research associate position is available in Polly Hsu’s Lab at Michigan State University to study translational regulation in Arabidopsis abscisic acid (ABA) signaling. The ideal candidate should have a strong track record and extensive lab experience in plant molecular biology, genetics, and genomics. Extensive experience handing low-yield RNA in plants, prior experiences leading large-scale experiments and processing next-generation sequencing libraries, and research experiences in mRNA translation, abiotic stress, or ABA signaling are desired. The candidate should have the capability to optimize and troubleshoot protocols and excellent organization and communication skills.
Description of duties:
90% Research (design, perform, and document experiments, ex. generate/characterize Arabidopsis mutants and transgenic plants, large-scale DNA/RNA/protein-extraction, PCR, qRT-PCR, western blot, RNA-seq/Ribo-seq library constructions, and prepare manuscripts for publication)
10% Assist in Lab organization and training new lab members (e.g., safety officer duties, assisting in training future Lab members on basic procedures)

Required Degree
Doctorate -Plant Biology, Molecular Biology, Genomics
Minimum Requirements
PhD in Plant Biology, Molecular Biology, Genomics, Plant Breeding and Genetics or related field; at least two first-author research articles in peer-reviewed plant journals.
Desired Qualifications
Extensive experience in plant molecular biology
Experience handling high-quality and low-yield RNA in plants and next-generation sequencing library construction
Experience working with Arabidopsis
Prior experience studying mRNA translation, abiotic stress or ABA signaling
