Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

The Panel Farmer Survey (PFS) research team at Michigan State University seeks several employees to perform data entry and other tasks related to improving data management and analysis procedures. We are seeking people who are proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word and who work with or are familiar with data management platforms like Google Drive and Slack. Familiarity with Qualtrics, an online survey platform, is also beneficial.

The ideal candidate will be interested in helping improve data management strategies and workflow processes within a team setting. The PFS provides real-world research experience for undergraduates interested in shaping the trajectory of a research project through completing assigned tasks and attending bi-weekly team meetings. Ideal candidates should also be comfortable working under deadlines, collaborating with faculty members and graduate students, and being responsive to e-mails and other communications. Interest in survey research and environmental topics is also beneficial.

The position will begin in April 2024 and extend through mid-July 2024. It will be based at the Michigan State University campus in East Lansing, MI. There is a possibility of the position extending into the summer and fall of 2024. In general, while work hours can be adjusted to accommodate personal schedules, employees will be expected to work 2 to 4-hour blocks or up to 6 to 8 hours daily. Employees will work, on average, 20-30 hours a week. This position provides an hourly wage of $13.50 an hour, which will be distributed according to Michigan State University's payroll schedule.

PANEL FARMER SURVEY PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The PFS is a longitudinal survey that is distributed annually to 3,400 corn and soybean farmers in the Eastern Corn Belt of the United States. The research goal of the PFS team is to understand why farmers select certain crop management practices over other available management options given (a) the ecological conditions of the land they farm and (b) changing social, economic, political, and environmental factors. Findings from this project will inform the design of communications and crop management strategies that most effectively meet
