Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

This practicum will support a campus-wide effort designed to fulfill MSU's Student Success 2030 Strategic plan of raising graduate rates to 86% by closing our opportunity gaps for marginalized students on campus. Our work will focus on five shared definitions of student success, Self-Discovery of Purpose, Educational Success (learning and academic success), Developing Sense of Belonging, Contributing to an Empowered Community, and Developing Well-Being.  Responsibilities will include: 1) administratively supporting the student success leads for one of five areas of student success by taking notes, filling out reporting templates, organizing meetings, capturing themes during meetings etc. 2) problem solving issues that arise in student success workstream groups in collaboration with the leads, 3) assisting with gathering data and details about current programs and initiatives at MSU that may best support or align with the student experience project; 3) providing information and reports to potential funders and 4) assisting with classroom support for a UGS 201 course. This position will provide opportunities to learn about implementing a campus-wide initiative, engaging senior leaders on campus and assessing initiative outcomes.

Desired Qualifications

Required: 

 

  • Bachelor's Degree  
  • Strong administrative skills (minute taking, scheduling, organizing, writing, oral communication and presentation)  
  • Evidence of investment in academic or occupational efforts that support diversity, equity and inclusion  
  • Knowledge of research and assessment processes  
  • Knowledge of project or program management techniques  

     

Preferred: 

 

Master's or Doctoral Candidates pursuing degrees in higher education, student affairs, social work, organizational psychology, project management, or similar fields.

 

Previous research and/or assessment experience

 

Experience with project or program management

 

Strength based approaches to working with marginalized populations
