Michigan State University(MSU) Data Resource Analyst in East Lansing, Michigan

Position Summary

The Research Evaluation and Data Analytics Team of MSU AgBioResearch Office of Research Support (ORS) is looking for a candidate to fill a data resource analyst position. The successful candidate will: monitor computer programs, and data analytics systems and update applications and solutions that interact with databases and other programs; implement precise business logic and monitor routine data flow in the data processing system; perform quality checks, investigate, and address computer-related and data analytics problems; maintain and develop codes to support data automation and extract information from existing files; maintain and design solutions and tools for data collection, analysis, and integration; visualize, analyze and summarize results and participates in preparing portions of reports or other scholarly works. Preference for candidates with experience in higher education institutions. This position will be hired with an end date of 9/15/2025.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master's in Educational Administration, Statistics, Economics or Research Methodology; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research design, statistical methods and knowledge of computer hardware and software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Desired Qualifications

Programming experience with some of the following programs: Python, SQL, Java, or Javascript; database management/administration using Microsoft Sharepoint, Microsoft Sharepoint Designer, or Cognos; business intelligence tool experience using Cognos, Microsoft PowerBi, Tableau or Cognos Analytics ; data preparation using Excel, Tableau Prep, or Google Cloud Data Prep; proficiency in Excel and Excel Visual Basic for Applications; data automation using Power Automation(Flow) and Microsoft Co-Pilot/Studio; web and mobile app development using PowerApps or other popular software; web form development using Microsoft Forms, Qualtrics, or Google Forms; collaboration and project management using Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Planner, Smartsheet or other popular collaboration software.

Experience or education in the field of computer science, data science, information technology, information systems, computer engineering or software engineering, and/or previous programming, data analytics, and data automation experience; excellent understanding of coding methods, documentation, and best practices; hands-on experience in developing test cases and data collection, integration and process automation plans; ability to research software-related issues, test and communicate pros and cons of internet applications, products, and software packages; strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment; proven analytical and problem-solving abilities; highly self-motivated, directed, with keen attention to details, flexible and adaptable in regards to learning and understanding new technologies related to programming activities that support research evaluation and data analytics.
