Position Summary

The Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering is seeking a professional and positive person to provide support for academic and research accounts and business operations. Our unit is growing and looking for the right person to round out our amazing business office team. We are looking for a person to work closely with our faculty to support their programs and provide essential support to our business operations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the monitoring and financial management of projects in accordance with applicable federal, state, local, and university policies, procedures and regulations.

  • Prepare monthly financial reports including examination of account financials and budgets for accuracy and reports discrepancies to immediate supervisor and investigator of concerns.

  • Manages program logistics for various conferences extension workshops and field days hosted by the unit working with both domestic and international partners.

  • Exercises judgement and discretion to find solutions to complex problems to meet the unit’s research, business operations and programmatic goals.

  • Support business operations to identify, develop and maintain unit’s business procedures. Working with the whole unit to improve efficiencies and provide consistent support.

  • Design, develop, a system through integrating multiple Office 365 enterprise tools used to streamline business operations.

  • Support business office by preparing cost redistributions, submits requisitions for purchase orders, processing reimbursements, processing and tracking subcontractor and vendor payments, assisting with travel reimbursements, and coordinating personal service contracts and associated payments.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in a business-related field or in a field which corresponds to the particular department of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in office procedures, or in performing responsibilities related to the operational activities of the employing unit; experience with word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software and/or desktop publishing, web page software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience in process mapping and creating efficiencies in business operations; experience processing financial documents in EBS; knowledge of human resource policies and procedures and experience with SAP, knowledge of MSU policies and procedures; research administration in an academic environment; as well as contract and grant compliance and administering federal agency policies; self-starter whose strengths include problem solving, teamwork, attention to details and ability to multi-task in a deadline-oriented environment; excellent communication skills and ability to work well with a diverse faculty, staff and students in a service-oriented unit; ability to demonstrate proficiency in MS Excel; Essentials of Research Administration certification.
