CHESS Health Accountant in E Rochester, New York

Who We Are

CHESS Health, based in Rochester, NY, is a rapidly growing healthcare technology, software and services company focused on addressing the crisis of substance use disorder (SUD). CHESS is the developer of a smartphone app, Connections, used by individuals in treatment for and recovery from SUD. The platform consists of three products: ePrevention eIntervention, and eRecovery. These products include smartphone applications for patients, their families, and their care team, web-based referral management, digital cognitive behavioral therapy lessons, as well as an analytics and benchmarking engine. CHESS Health customers also include SUD treatment providers, state and local governments, and health plans.

The Position

CHESS Health is looking for a highly motivated Accountant with strong problem solving and analytical skills and the ability to navigate at a fast-pace and prioritize deadlines with flexibility as business needs change. This position will work closely with the VP Finance to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, contribute to the month-end close process, and other related financial activities. Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee CHESS’s financial data and compliance by maintaining accurate books on accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and daily financial entries and reconciliations.

  • Maintain QuickBooks by processing financial transactions, establishing accounts, posting transactions, and takes action to correct errors or problems

  • Provide outside auditors with assistance gathering account information and documents to perform the audit

  • Prepare a variety of financial reports including income statements and balance sheets, by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends

  • Assist in implementation of new processes and technology projects

  • Balance payroll, documents all transactions related to an employee’s wages and benefits, including commission, bonuses, and hourly pay

  • Handle customer billing and collections

  • Ensure accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconcile subsidiary ledger accounts to general ledger

  • Compile financial data to aid in the preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports

  • Assist in analyzing current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses

  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing reports, and advising management on needed actions

  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures

Work Schedule, Location, and Compensation

  • The position is full-time, core office hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00pm EST, requiring flexibility to support the business outside of these core hours, as needed

  • This position will be based in Rochester, NY generally on a hybrid basis. This position will work remotely from a dedicated home office as well as required to report to the office in East Rochester at a minimum full day Wednesday, and more frequently as needed. Flexibility is required, to include the ability to report to the East Rochester office upon request and/or work from the office for extended periods of time

  • The annual compensation for this position is $60-75K, depending on experience. This position is not bonus eligible.

Your Value Proposition

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and 1-3 years of professional accounting experience strongly preferred

  • Exceptional understanding of accounting rules and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) required

  • Knowledge of payroll, benefits distribution, and garnishments required

  • Strong knowledge of cash management principles, payroll policies and procedures required

  • Advanced knowledge of/experience with Excel and Microsoft Office applications required

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and listening skills with ability to work collaboratively, build strong relationships, share best practices, and contribute ideas to support colleagues, CHESS Health, and our customers while working in matrix environment

  • Professional experience within SUD/behavioral health/healthcare/healthcare technology industry is preferred
