Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Hydrologist in Durant, Oklahoma
Job Purpose or Objective(s): Responsible for managing all aspects analysis of hydrologic and geologic field data, water level data, and water resource availability; and assess the potential upstream and downstream surface water, groundwater, and sedimentation impacts to Water Settlement Agreement Area Waters to ensure environmental sustainability for all stakeholders and members of the Choctaw Nation. You will report to the Director of Water Resources.
Primary Tasks:
You will manage and evaluate water resource availability modeling program and data.
You will collect data on precipitation, runoff, and streamflow within each Water Settlement Agreement basin to analyze and develop recommendations for watershed health, reduction or mitigation of climate change impacts, and forecast water resource availability.
You will use modeling to assess the potential upstream and downstream impacts proposed industries may have on surface water, groundwater, and sedimentation of reservation water resources, including navigation, recreation, fish, and wildlife.
You will measure properties of bodies of water, such as volume and stream flows.
You will analyze data on the environmental impacts of pollution, erosion, drought, and other climate change issues that affect watershed health and habitats and research ways to minimize these impacts within the Water Settlement Agreement Area.
You will evaluate the feasibility of water-related projects and their impacts, both positive and negative, on the Water Settlement Area basins.
You will communicate results of data analyses to leadership, team members, stakeholders, and professional communities through written reports and presentations of findings.
You will work cooperatively with internal departments and external tribal departments to coordinate efforts, and state and federal agencies for potential funding mechanisms.
You will participate in networking and conference opportunities to increase knowledge of related scientific advances in hydrology and modeling.
You will development and project management of federally grant funded projects.

Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in a natural science, environmental engineering, or related field and 3 years of relevant experience or;
7 years of relevant experience
Understand, explain, and use multifaceted scientific theories and formulas
Knowledge of Oklahoma water resources or water rights administration
Knowledge of GIS software capabilities
