The Northrop Grumman Space Sector is seeking a Manager 1 - Accounting and Reporting. The selected candidate will report the Director, Controller for the Tactical Space Systems Division and will be responsible for division cost accounting and financial statements.

The Manager 1 - Accounting will lead a team of financial analysts and other business management professionals, as either direct reports or matrixed from other disciplines. The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency of developing and motivating staff in a team environment with excellent interpersonal, planning, presentation and organizational skills. This position is located in Dulles, VA.

Northrop Space Systems is seeking qualified candidates for an Accounting Manager role.

The position has oversight of the following general accounting responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and manages the month end, quarter and year end accounting close requirements and owns various SOX controls

  • Maintains the general ledger chart of accounts and cost structure

  • Manages the account reconciliation process, valuations for insurance renewals, fixed asset and inventory accounting, and intercompany accounting

  • Works with Reporting team to ensure financial statements and disclosures are accurate and complete

  • Prepares, reviews and approves journal entries

  • Leads Costpoint User Acceptance Testing and Training

  • Consults on accounting theories and regulations regarding unique business transactions

  • Coordinates responses and ad hoc requests from Division, Sector, or Corporate

  • Responsible for presenting variance analysis as required to division management

  • Identifies and proactively leads training across the Division

  • Demonstrated ability to identify issues and make recommendations to management for resolution or mitigation

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Management and leadership of geographically dispersed staff

  • Makes decisions that require evaluation of many alternatives; these decisions may be made under conditions of uncertainty or where little precedent exists

  • Represents the functional/business unit or program as internal and external contact for business management; interacts with leadership and business partners

  • Interprets, executes, and manages digital transformation initiatives

  • Champion for process automation/improvements efforts and system implementation

  • Manages modifications/improvements to processes, policies and practices

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications for Manager 1:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline with 6+ years related experience or a Master's degree with 4+ years of related experience as outlined above. Additional 4 years of experience accepted in lieu of a degree.

  • Experience working with DCAA/MA, internal audit or external audit

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, CAS, or DFARS

  • Strong digital transformation and data analytics skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA

  • Prior experience preparing and presenting financial analysis to team and/or management

  • Experience with Costpoint

  • Experience with financial forecasting systems including any or all of the following: TM-1, Hyperion, or COGNOS

  • Enterprise/Corporate accounting experience

Salary Range: $104,600 - $156,800

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
