Diageo Process Development Specialist - Brewing in Dublin, Ireland

Job Description :

Context

Global Technical: Science and Technology (S&T) provides technical leadership for Diageo’s Whisky, Spirits and Beer business globally. Within Science and Technology, the Dublin based S&T team functions in the following areas;

o Brewing centre of excellence, leading process development & transformation across brewing, driving efficiencies and process agility

o Liquid Innovation, providing technical solutions to support and enable brand innovations

o Sustainability, providing technical solution in and around brewing to help achieve the Diageo sustainability 2030 ambition.

o Quality improvement to address the fundamentals to enable flavour improvement and successful innovations. With special focus on brewing recipes & local raw materials, yeast, fermentation & filtation and microbiology, hygiene & CIP.

Within the Global Technical Science & Technology function- this role sits within the S&T: Beer team in Dublin, led by the PCAF manager. The team brings together a wide range of complementary expertise and skills, leaning more towards beer and brewing.

The remit is very much global and spans across all categories/ product types and production sites.

Purpose of the Role

• Contribute to, and deliver the technical role of the S&T team within the global supply business.

• Add value to the business and build the reputation of the S&T team as trusted technical partner.

• Deliver R&D projects in areas including -

o innovation,

o margin enhancement,

o sustainability,

o capacity release,

o process optimisation,

o quality improvement,

o concentrate development,

o manufacturing support

Key Responsibilities

• Key member of the S&T team helping to deliver business benefit.

• Role will vary from Project Management to Workstream Leadership to Supporting role depending on the scale and nature of the project.

• Liaise with suppliers and external agencies to organise and co-ordinate trials externally or in our production sites to evaluate processes, technologies, process aids, ingredients.

• Design, organise and carry out Technical trials from laboratory to pilot plant scale. Present robust results in clear reports.

• Plan, co-ordinate and work with Supply in carrying out Plant scale trials.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications Required

• Brewing, Science / Engineering degree - technical depth through relevant masters or doctorate preferred.

• A strong competency in Brewing and a peak of expertise in one or more of the following: Raw materials & extract conversion, Liquid manufacturing / processing, Biotechnology, Fermentation, Microbiology, Filtration, CIP, Water Treatment, Sustainability.

• Practical/production experience in a relevant Technical role, research or innovation experience preferred.

• Breadth and depth of knowledge of liquid / manufacturing processes desirable.

• Clear thinker and communicator with good analytical and planning skills.
