POSITION SUMMARY:

Organizes and facilitates orientation and educational programs, coordinating health care human resources and Infection Control. Reference:  PA Code §201.20.Staff Development

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts and updates the orientation program for all new nursing staff and assists in evaluation of performance of new nursing personnel. This will require the Education Director to initiate communication with Supervisors and Assistant Directors of Nursing (ADONs)
  • Conducts and updates the orientation program for new nurses from supplemental staffing agencies, and all new facility personnel.
  • Assesses the learning needs of the licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants, and other facility personnel.
  • Conducts a series of competency/retraining programs to increase the skills of the current staff.
  • Prepares, assists, conducts, and evaluates training based on the assessed learning needs.
  • Teaches staff current accepted customer care and facility practices and develops in-service programs in response to staff needs.
  • Develops in-service programs for all disciplines each calendar year which includes State/Federal mandatory in-services and projects a plan for formal educational sessions for a full year.
  • Enlists, maintains and coordinates use of educational resources, i.e. instructors, lecturers, demonstrations and audiovisual equipment.
  • Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of an outline of the material presented at each educational session.
  • Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of a method for evaluating the effectiveness of each educational session.
  • Participates in interdepartmental meetings to assess and coordinate need for in-service.
  • Collaborates with the ADONs on implementing clinical initiatives.
  • Coordinates student clinical programs and orientation.
  • Coordinates computer-based training related to Electronic Health Record and EHR initiatives.
  • Maintains in-service records on all employees for regulatory compliance.
  • Attends and participates in educational training programs that will enhance the educational programs of the facility.
  • Supports County Human Resources (HR) and the Facility's internal Human Resources functions by communicating information relevant to staffing levels, leaves of absence, employee and labor relations, etc.
  • Assists the Director of Nursing with the progressive disciplinary process and the labor management process; risk management and safety; recruiting and retention; employee recognition, health and wellness initiatives, and team building
  • Functions as the back-up Infection Control Preventionist, shares some of the day-to-day duties.
  • Functions as Administrator on-call.
  • Performs other duties as required.

     

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Education preferred with a minimum of three years' nursing experience.  Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.

``` - Minimum of one year recent experience in a licensed nursing facility.  Experience should include varied responsibilities such as direct patient care, supervision, and staff development. - Certified as a Nursing Home Infection Preventionist, as per the CDC course requirements.
