Description
U nder general supervision, to prepare stencils by operating computerized sign plotter or hand cutting methods for use in the manufacture of various sized multi-color street and traffic signs and information markers.
Examples of Duties
Prepares sign stencils by operating such apparatus as Graphtec Sign Plotter and Sign CAD software.
Lays out graphic designs and/or text for stencils from sketches, photographic images, written , or verbal instructions by determining lettering style, size , and spacing of text.
Makes recommendations on graphic designs and the composition of text.
Makes free-hand designs and touches up graphics for greater definition.
Cuts or hand trains material.
Traces and/or cuts paper stencils for special signs as required , using T-square, rule, pencils, and stencil knives and brushes.
Cleans, adjusts , and makes minor repairs to equipment.
Performs a variety of related clerical tasks including keeping records of stencils prepared and materials used.
Makes recommendations on the purchase of equipment, supplies , and services.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications (required):
Two (2) years in High School .
Two (2) years of experience preparing sign stencils .
Qualifications (preferred):
High School graduation or G.E.D.
E xperience in both sign plotter and hand-cutting methods of preparing sign stencils .
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirements of this position.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
• Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or
At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.
