Job Title: Functional Test Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a Functional Test Engineer with post-college experience or translatable work experiences, such as internships, within the automotive industry. Proficiency in instrumentation installation on a vehicle is required to be considered for this position The ideal candidate will have knowledge of diesel engine combustion, aftertreatment, transmission, and control systems. Experience with instrumentation installation, electrical architecture, troubleshooting, and software and calibration flashing is preferred. The role involves data logging, analyzing system configurations, and validating performance requirements for engine systems of on-highway trucks. The engineer will troubleshoot system-level performance failures, perform root cause analysis, and identify areas for system performance improvements.
Responsibilities
Communicate directions, submit work orders, and work within a union environment.
Log data and analyze system configuration and performance validation requirements for engine systems of on-highway trucks.
Troubleshoot system-level performance failures and perform root cause analysis to prevent potential failures.
Identify areas for system performance improvements.
Leverage data analysis tools, diagnostics, and calibration data using Vector Products (CANape).
Write reports outlining daily test activities and issue escalation documentation.
Generate performance graphs and histograms, identify data abnormalities, and review results from validation.
Maintain technical documentation.

Proficiency with Microsoft Tools
Experience with Vector CANape & CANalyzer or INCA & MATLAB
Ability to travel 40% of the year for remote testing
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Automotive, Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics, or Controls Engineering
2+ years of engine development experience preferred
Experience in a union shop environment
Engine dynamometer testing experience in diesel, combustion, or battery
Ability to communicate and maintain professional and social interaction in a multi-cultural environment
Self-driven with the ability to identify and connect with other engineers to develop technical competencies
Work Environment
This is an onsite position with travel required for vehicle testing. Testing seasons occur for 6-18 weeks during the summer and winter. During these periods, the expectation is 40% travel, typically being out for two weeks on the road and back for two weeks. The role involves 400-800 hours of overtime per year, almost all during the testing season. Note that overtime is paid at the normal hourly rate, not at 1.5x.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $40.00/hr.
