Aerotek Concrete Technician in Detroit, Michigan

Job Title: Concrete Technician

Job Description

You will work with concrete and soil on open construction sites, performing tests to determine the density and compaction of the materials. You will use gauges that penetrate one foot into the ground to test compaction, perform house tests for stone materials, sieve tests for soil grain analysis, and air tests to ensure concrete standards. This role involves working with a geotechnical engineering firm to ensure construction work meets required specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct soil and concrete tests on construction sites.

  • Use gauges to test soil compaction.

  • Perform house tests for stone materials.

  • Conduct sieve tests for soil grain analysis.

  • Perform air tests on concrete.

  • Drive to various construction sites (2-3 sites per day) within a 50-mile radius.

  • Communicate with construction workers to ensure areas meet standards.

  • Write reports and draw maps of the site for final reporting.

  • Record hours and mileage to submit weekly.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs consistently.

  • 1+ year of school/site experience.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Earth Science or Geology (preferred).

  • ACI or MCA certifications (preferred).

  • Relevant certifications in construction material testing.

Work Environment

You will primarily work outdoors (95%) in various weather conditions, traveling to job sites in your own vehicle. The role involves interacting with construction teams, performing tests, and occasionally working in the lab (5%). Must wear work boots and jeans; shorts and cut-off shirts are not permitted.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ferndale, Michigan.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
