Alternatives for Girls Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable Clerk in Detroit, Michigan

Job Summary:

 

The Accounts Payable/Receivable Clerk supports AFG's mission and provides accounting, financial reporting, and data entry support to the organization.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Manage all aspects of the accounting for general receipts, receivables, disbursements, and payables processing. Verify accuracy of vendor invoices, donor, and other receipts, prepare journal entries, and compile and report data for reporting.
  • Manage all aspects of AFG's credit card reconciliation process.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and provide support for month-end closing activities.
  • Assist in reconciling multiple bank accounts. Analyze account activity to ensure deposits, cash receipts, and credit card transactions are posted to the proper accounts.
  • Assist in the setup and maintenance of grant budgets in the accounting system. Work with the Grants Specialist to reconcile monthly grant/contract billing.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

     

Demonstrated Abilities:

 

  • Good organizational and task management skills
  • Ability to set priorities, take initiative and meet deadlines
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to analyze and interpret data for accuracy
  • Demonstrated reliability and good attendance

     

Acquired Knowledge:

 

  • Requires an associate degree in accounting, finance, business administration or an equivalent number of years of experience and
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably with a nonprofit organization
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications (i.e., Excel and Word) and use of the Internet
  • QuickBooks experience is strongly preferred
