Overview

The Department of Public Safety is seeking a Part-Time Program Services Clerk to assist with administrative functions at the Derby Barracks. This role provides essential support to law enforcement by managing casework, fulfilling legal discovery requests, and handling sensitive information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare criminal and civil casework for the court and the States Attorney, including conducting criminal record checks for offenders and witnesses.
  • Process and fulfill legal discovery requests within strict deadlines, including case preparation in the Evidence Library system.
  • Validate cases for NCIC (National Crime Information Center) and NIBRS (National Incident-Based Reporting System).
  • Handle court sealings and expungements.
  • Manage statistical reporting needs for the barracks and assist with public inquiries.
  • Perform clerical duties such as filing, data entry, and responding to requests from state, federal, and local authorities.
  • Provide information on travel conditions, service providers, and law enforcement-related matters to the public.

This position involves frequent interaction with individuals who have violated criminal or motor vehicle laws. The role requires handling confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion. Training will be provided in multiple law enforcement systems, including Valcour, Open Fox, CJIS, VOWS, and Evidence Library.

Successful completion of a background check is required. This position will work approximately 49 hours every pay period (two weeks) for about a year. Ideally, the work will take place during the afternoon and early evening hours.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting but occasional travel may be required, for which private means of transportation must be available. Considerable interaction with clients and the general public may be anticipated. Some pressure from deadlines may occur.
