About The Role

The Pulse Design System engineering team is building the UI component library, foundational infrastructure, and tooling to support a design system at the scale of a Fortune 6 company!

We're looking for an experienced front-end engineer with design systems expertise who is passionate about building performant and accessible UI components. In this role, you will work closely with designers, product, accessibility, and other engineers across Web, Android, and iOS platforms to develop, support, and evolve the Pulse Design System. We are passionate about helping build consistent user experiences across numerous lines of business and CVS brands. Our ideal candidate has direct design systems contribution experience, strong communication skills with a drive to support others, and is someone who wants to have a hand in helping thousands of our internal partners to do their best work.

The Pulse Web Engineering team supports various front-end frameworks including React, Angular, and Web Components via Stencil.js, so individuals with exposure to or an interest in exploring a diverse set of front-end frameworks are encouraged to apply.

This role is fully remote .

What We Expect of You

  • You will build and test durable, easy-to-use, accessible web components.

  • You will create clear component documentation that empowers other engineers to easily leverage Pulse’s components.

  • You will help contribute to Pulse's documentation site.

  • You will work closely with the Design, Accessibility, and Engineering teams to ensure user needs are balanced with technical requirements

  • You will advocate for best practices in all phases of the software life cycle, pushing for continuous improvement and innovation.

  • You will advocate for engineering best practices, including test coverage, clean code, security, and a11y.

  • You will actively participate in peer code reviews, providing feedback to your fellow engineers to make them better and to improve the quality of the software we ship.

  • You will partner with engineering teams using disparate component libraries to unify around the Pulse Design System.

  • You will pair with engineers across CVS Digital as they contribute to our component library, ensuring they have a path to a successful contribution.

  • You will actively engage with and support our consuming engineers in gathering feedback and rapidly implementing changes to enhance the functionality and usability of our tools and systems.

  • Occasionally, you'll wear your DevOps hat to ensure components can be successfully released and consumed by engineers.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in Web Development using one or more modern Frontend Frameworks (e.g. React, Angular, Vue, Svelte, etc.).

  • 3+ years of experience with JavaScript.

  • 1+ years of contributing directly to design systems at a large scale.

  • Experience building UI components with accessibility and documentation as first-class citizens.

  • Experience working with a source versioning tool, such as Git.

  • Experience with Figma or similar design tools.

  • Experience with testing and proficiency with a testing framework (e.g., Jest, RTL, Cypress, Puppeteer).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Knapsack, Zeroheight, Storybook, Style Dictionary, or other frequently used design system tooling.

  • Experience working on a project using mature CI/CD practices.

  • Experience with web component libraries such as StencilJS, Lit, Angular Elements, etc.

  • Experience with CSS pre-processors such as SASS or LESS, etc.

  • Experience supporting users of internal systems or other equivalent customer support experience.

  • Ability to understand and debug cross-browser issues.

  • Knowledge of web accessibility guidelines such as WCAG 2.0 508 Compliance.

  • Knowledge of UI/UX design methods and trends (ie. Material design).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$64,890.00 - $154,500.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
