Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains inventory and monitors issuing of office supplies.
Maintains and processes sensitive/confidential patient records.
Interacts with requestors to identify medical records needed for patient care, review, billing or release of information.
Handles requests and inquiries for patient health information whether received via mail, fax, phone or in-person.
Picks up mail daily and distributes as necessary.
Assists with maintenance of deficiency list for facility as directed by supervisor.
Complies and submits birth registrations as required by the State of Iowa.
Scans documents and indexes appropriately.
Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job-related hazards.
Follows the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intra- departmentally to facilitate the department’s/unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.

Professional Requirements:
Complete annual education requirements.
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Report to work on time and as scheduled.
Wear identification while on duty.
Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.

Attend regular staff meetings and in-services.
Job Requirements:
Associates degree in secretarial science or equivalent education/experience preferred.
Three to five years of progressively responsible secretarial experience in a medical record department or healthcare facility preferred.
Good typing skills.
Familiarity with medical terminology.
Ability to work under pressure.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to work with confidential information.
