Robert Half Payroll Tax Specialist in Decatur, Alabama

Description

We are offering a contract to permanent employment opportunity for a Payroll Tax Specialist in Decatur, Alabama. As a Payroll Tax Specialist, you will be joining our team in the environmental industry. You will be responsible for ensuring the correct tax withholdings and employer contributions, filing tax returns, and maintaining accurate records. You will also be involved in resolving tax discrepancies, assisting with audits, managing payroll systems, and overseeing wage attachments.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the withholding of correct taxes from employee wages in accordance with federal, state, and local tax laws, as well as any additional deductions or exemptions.

• Manage employer contributions towards payroll taxes, such as the employer portion of Social Security and Medicare taxes.

• Ensure tax forms and returns related to payroll taxes are filed timely via the current payroll provider.

• Stay updated with changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance with all applicable payroll tax requirements.

• Maintain accurate records of payroll tax payments, filings, and other relevant documentation.

• Address and resolve any discrepancies or issues related to payroll taxes, including responding to inquiries from tax authorities and addressing employee concerns.

• Assist with payroll tax audits by providing documentation and answering questions from auditors.

• Oversee payroll systems and software to ensure accurate calculation and reporting of payroll taxes.

• Oversee the wage attachment process, including but not limited to UKG entry, vendor/payee follow-up, and employee outreach.

• Complete year-end processes via payroll provider to include W2 preparation.

Requirements • Proficiency in Accounting Software Systems is required

• Experience in 401k - RRSP Administration is necessary

• Ability to perform Accounting Functions effectively

• Familiarity with Accrual Accounting is a must

• Strong background in Auditing

• Proficient in using UKG Pro

• Experience with Kronos is a plus

• Skilled in handling Multi-state Payroll

• Familiarity with Multi-state Tax regulations

• Solid understanding and experience with Payroll Taxes
