Applied Research Solutions Strategic Communications Strategist in Dayton, Ohio

ARS is seeking an experienced Strategic Communications Strategist to develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies for a government innovation program. This role will lead efforts to engage diverse communities across an innovation ecosystem, including government stakeholders, industry partners, and academic institutions. The ideal candidate will combine strategic thinking with practical execution skills to effectively promote organizational mission, initiatives, and successes. This position requires someone who can translate complex technical concepts into compelling narratives that resonate with various audiences and drive engagement with innovation objectives.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategic communication plans aligned with organizational objectives and priorities

  • Lead messaging and content strategy across various communication platforms and channels

  • Collaborate with leadership to understand and articulate program vision, mission, and priorities

  • Work with subject matter experts to transform complex technical concepts into clear, compelling content

  • Oversee integrated communication across digital, print, and event-based channels

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across government, industry, and academia

  • Analyze communication effectiveness using metrics and audience feedback

  • Develop and manage crisis communication strategies when needed

  • Ensure brand consistency and messaging alignment across all communications

  • Collaborate with marketing and events teams to create cohesive outreach strategies

  • Lead strategic planning for major announcements, events, and initiatives

  • Provide communication counsel to leadership on sensitive or high-visibility issues

  • Stay current on emerging communication trends and best practices

  • Mentor and guide communications team members on strategic approaches

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/ Technical Experience Requirements:

  • Must be a US citizen

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field

  • 7+ years of experience in strategic communications, public relations, or similar roles

  • Demonstrated experience developing comprehensive communication strategies

  • Strong portfolio of successful communication campaigns and initiatives

  • Excellent writing and editing skills across various formats and channels

  • Experience translating complex technical information for different audiences

  • Proven ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders

  • Strong analytical skills to measure communication effectiveness

  • Experience managing communication during organizational change or growth

  • Proficiency with digital communication tools and platforms

  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Communications, Business Administration, or related field

  • Experience with government, defense, or technology sector communications

  • Knowledge of defense innovation ecosystem and technology transition processes

  • Background in science or technology communications

  • Experience with strategic planning and organizational messaging development

  • Crisis communications experience

  • Understanding of government approval processes for external communications

  • Experience with brand development and management

  • Background working with technical subject matter experts

  • Knowledge of federal government communication policies and procedures
