The Safety Engineer applies knowledge and experience in System Safety philosophy, policies, and procedures to Air Force systems, subsystems, and equipment procurement activities, post-award project/program management tasks, and acquisition programs throughout their life cycles. The Safety Engineer will also perform a wide range of acquisition management activities in support of AFLCMC/WAB (FMS) A-29 aircraft and supports the acquisition program management of full life cycle requirements, subsystems and equipment. Responsibilities: Applies a full range of System Safety philosophy, policies/procedures, understands current Department of Defense (DoD) and Air Force acquisition regulations, guidelines and processes, and has a solid working knowledge of MIL STD 882E. Produces and reviews technical evaluations/plans; engineering studies, reports and analyses; and acquisition strategies/plans, including Statements of Objectives (SOO), Performance Work Statements (PWS), Statements of Work (SOW), Requests for Proposal (RFP), and Analysis of Alternatives (AOA); Initial Capabilities Document (ICD); Capabilities Development Document (CDD); Concepts of Operation (CONOPS); Capabilities Production Document (CPD); System Requirements Document (SRD); System Specification; System Engineering Plan (SEP); Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP); Program Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health Evaluation (PESHE); Alternative Live Fire Test and Evaluation Plan; Data Management Strategy; Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Survivability Assessments; hazard analyses; airworthiness inputs; and other program/technical documents as required. Supports proposal reviews and provides assistance in risk management, project management, process improvement support, and logistics support. Participates in process improvement activities as members of, or advisors to, Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and Product/Process Improvement Working Groups (PIWGs). Assists in the collection of programmatic inputs from acquisition programs throughout their life cycles to include: research, develop, produce, test, acquire, field, sustain and modernize existing and advanced war-winning capabilities. Analyzes equipment for hardware and software deficiencies, makes recommendations for hardware and software deficiency corrections, and develops, integrates, and tests hardware and software deficiency solutions. Assists the Government in the engineering evaluation of prime and subcontractor recommendations for operational and support issues such as: evaluations of advance change study notices (ACSNs), engineering change proposals (ECPs), contract change proposals (CCPs), FAA Bulletins, modification proposals, DMSMS, program risk, and related documents. Assists with establishing, implementing, and adhering to life cycle systems engineering (LCSE) processes to ensure operational safety, suitability, and effectiveness (OSS&E) compliance is achieved and maintained. Supports the Air Force Integrity Programs, maintains and updates the Critical Safety Item (CSI) list, and monitors Airworthiness Certifications for Fighter Bomber Directorate aircraft.
