Graco, Inc. Senior Designer Mechanical in Dayton, Minnesota

Job Purpose

This position provides computer-aided (CAD) conceptual design and layout and drafting support to new product development and standard product support engineering activities. This position involves providing layouts for detailing, as well as CAD designing guidance, to a lower level CAD operator.

What You Will Do at Graco

  • CAD design and documentation:

  • Provide conceptual designs of new products in cooperation with a design team consisting of engineers, other designers and lab technicians.

  • Produce concept design layouts, CAD models and detail drawings.

  • Revise and redraw, as required, production drawings of existing standard products.

  • Use and apply Graco design and drafting standards, including geometric tolerancing, and provide guidance to other designers.

  • Complete ECOs by utilizing PDM and other tools.

  • Perform tolerance analysis on critical assemblies.

  • Perform engineering calculations as required to provide sound designs.

  • Development project activities:

  • Work with Model Shop, Purchasing, Technicians, and Manufacturing as required to produce designed products.

  • Communicate with manufacturing and suppliers to develop cost effective parts designs.

  • Release drawings to manufacturing and facilitate the manufacturing progress throughout the pre-prod cycle.

  • Identify design activities and solve problems.

  • Perform engineering calculations as required to provide sound designs.

  • Project management & leadership:

  • Assist lab technicians in completion of test plans.

  • Provide leadership of entry level designers or technicians.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Will Bring To Graco

  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent.

  • Consistent highly effective performance at grade 8.

  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical design drafting practices.

  • Capable of using and applying Graco design and drafting standards.

  • Minimum 4 years experience in drafting including two years at design level.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic design calculations (example: thread strength, press fits, cylinder stress, etc.).

  • Demonstrated ability to independently generate major, complex designs.

  • Knowledge and capability to design for multiple tooling methods.

  • Thorough knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes.

  • Thorough knowledge of use and application of geometric tolerancing and tolerance analysis.

The base pay range for this position is listed below, exclusive of fringe benefits or other compensation. If you are hired, your final base hourly rate will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, competencies, education, and/or experience. In addition to those factors, we will also consider internal equity of our current employees. Please keep in mind that the range provided is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at or near the maximum of the range would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth.
