  • Job Summary

  • Under the general direction of the Retail Pharmacy Manager/Outpatient Pharmacist In Charge, the Retail Pharmacist is responsible for the assistance in the coordination and direction of the Outpatient Pharmacy services provided from the Retail Pharmacy. The Retail Pharmacist provides direct patient care services in the form of dispensed prescriptions, patient counseling about their prescriptions, drug regimen review, disease management, patient education appointments, presentations, and assistance with administration of Pharmacy benefits. The Retail Pharmacist develops patient programming and community relations events that meet the scope of service as defined by mutually defined goals of Ephraim McDowell Health leadership. The Retail Pharmacist shall assist in the clinical policy and procedure development, evaluation and maintenance of software databases, patient accounting and register deposits, 3rd party contracts and claims processing, operation of computers, supervision of technicians, Precepting of Students and customer service. The Retail Pharmacist is responsible for inventory management functions. The Retail Pharmacist Exhibits the F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust).

  • Working Conditions, Hazards and Physical Effort

  • Limited office and storage space; small work area. Must be attentive to detail. Stress from deadlines and strict regulations. Frequent prolonged amount of time in a stationary position. Frequent moving of supplies/equipment/enteral nutrition/totes of medications. Must be able to move or position 25 lbs. independently.

  • Minimum Qualifications or Equivalents

  • Education: Must have graduated from an accredited pharmacy school with a BS of Pharmacy Degree. Pharm.D. Degree preferred. Advanced business Degree (MBA) or Masters level Pharmacy Degree related to Outpatient Pharmacy management advantageous.

  • Experience: Must have sufficient experience in Retail Pharmacy based or Ambulatory Clinic Service Line. MTM or Anticoagulation Clinic, Ambulatory Clinic Residency, practice experience preferred. Geriatric clinical specialty also advantageous.

  • EQUIPMENT USED/SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED: Knowledge of Outpatient Pharmacy operations required; Medicaid and 3rd party payer models experience preferred. McKesson electronic claims experience preferred. Must have excellent communication skills. Computer skills for reports required. Use of Excel or Word for reports required. PowerPoint and Access beneficial.

  • Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations

  • Must have a valid Kentucky Board of Pharmacy License as a R.Ph. Certification in disease state management (ambulatory clinics) Pharmacy Student Preceptor (after one [1] year practice) if Precepting Students.
