AT&T Principal Member of Technical Staff in Dallas, Texas

Job Description:

This position requires office presence of a minimum of 5 days per week and is only located in the location(s) posted. No relocation is offered.

Overview:

  • This position is for an experienced Principal Member of Technical Staff with proven expertise in driving development and standardization of core network technologies, architectures, network protocols and interfaces in multiple domestic and international standards entities with focus in 3GPP and associated industry entities. Individual will represent AT&T at industry technical forums (primarily 3GPP) developing core network, system, security, and/or service network standards. Individual will be a member of the standards team in the Network CTO organization. The successful candidate shall be recognized by their peers as a technical leader in this area and demonstrate the ability to develop new technology solutions, co-lead projects, and provide standards leadership related to AT&T’s 5G-Advanced/6G cellular networks.

Job Description:

  • Candidate will represent AT&T at industry technical forums (primarily 3GPP) developing standards for mobile systems, services and the core network.

  • Candidate will be working very closely with RAN teams in developing an end-to-end architecture.

  • Candidate will be a member of Standards team that seeks to advance AT&T’s positions in industry technical forums and ensures AT&T’s needs are met. The work requires driving technical debates, developing/reviewing industry contributions in new and existing technology areas, consensus building, and negotiation for success.

  • As a team member the candidate will engage in development of industry standards involving areas such as cellular protocols / APIs, cellular access network architecture, interface definitions, services definition, security standards, industry trends and keeping up to date with new research such as for 6G, AI/ML, and Cloud based implementations. Internally, the candidate will be responsible for fostering collaboration, communicating, and aligning with multiple internal stakeholders in various organizations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Production and ownership of overarching standards strategies addressing the integration of radio, terminal, mobile packet core network, security, OAM and services into a system view suitable for defining specific near term and long-term standards action plans.

  • Development of technical contributions and position papers (internally and collaboratively with our vendor partners), assessment of vendor and operator marketplace positions and efforts, and authoring of technical white papers are expected functions. Opportunity exists (and is encouraged) for the development of intellectual property (patents) for AT&T.

  • This position requires driving technical debates, consensus building, and negotiation for success both internally and externally to ensure AT&T’s RAN standardization needs are met.

  • Individual may need to seek and hold leadership positions in relevant international organizations to foster AT&T engagement and objectives. Internally, the candidate will be responsible for fostering collaboration, communicating, and aligning with multiple internal stakeholders in various organizations.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred PhD in in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Science, Electrical Engineering, or Math with minimum four years of relevant experience. Or Master of Science degree with minimum 8-10 years' experience of relevant work experience.

  • A strong foundation in wireless communication principles and deep understanding of the system protocol stack and architecture, interfaces and information elements are key requirements.

  • Experience in development of system requirements and evaluation/analysis of new wireless technologies is necessary. An understanding of 6G, O-RAN architecture and interfaces, RAN-CN interfaces and protocols are desirable skills.

  • Prior experience with standardization in 3GPP working groups is a must.

  • Can solve complex, critical problems related to significant and unique issues at the system and unit level. Ability to use extensive standards experience and interpretative thinking, utilizing innovative methods to develop and promote standards solutions.

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel including International and weekends to attend standards meetings is a requirement for this position.

Environmental Requirements:

  • This position may be responsible for contributing to AT&T compliance with environmental laws and regulations as applicable to its job function. This may include, but is not limited to, work related to fuel tanks, emergency and stand-by generators, boilers, hazardous waste, hazardous materials, batteries, manholes and vaults, water wells, linear and other construction projects, water discharge, or air emissions.

Our Principal Member of Technical Staff, earns between $160,900.00 - $270,400.00 USD Annual, not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.

Salary Range:
