AT&T Principal Member of Technical Staff in Dallas, Texas

The Advanced Technical Support (ATS) Conexus Team provides Tier3 IP network support services for new technology insertion, MOP development to integrate network solutions and services and complex problem resolution for the following AT&T Internal (Domestic and International) Enterprise network environments: Enterprise Data Centers, Internet Data Center OAM, Administrative Buildings, Retail Stores, Central Office OAM, Perimeter Services (Business Partners, Affiliates, Cloud Service Providers, Internet).

Responsibilities include assisting leadership on major projects, infrastructure upgrades, technology migrations, and service delivery for major initiatives in collaboration with network design and engineering teams. Administer and maintain various multi-vendor network elements such as routers and switches. Working with architecture, engineering, and operation teams to develop and document device configuration and end-to-end network integration procedures utilizing standards and best practices. Troubleshoot and resolve high priority network outage events. Assist operations with the implementation of network and security technologies. Work with ATS peers to develop automation using Ansible to deploy, modify and upgrade network services. Work with vendors and architecture teams to investigate next generation solutions for integration into AT&T Internal Enterprise (Conexus) network. Review compliance and network infrastructure audit findings and develop mitigation plans to address vulnerabilities.

Perform lab testing on documented procedures and risk assessment prior to production deployment. Utilize tools to monitor the health of the production environment and work with operations front line teams to address escalations for production issues. Drive vendors to define root cause for network failures/undesirable performance by demanding superior quality.

Qualifications:

Required Degrees/Majors/Accreditations/Skills:

Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Security Operations, Cybersecurity or Technology Equivalent plus minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Security and Data Networking. Must be available for On-Call Support.

CCIE or equivalent experience in IP routing and switching.

Extensive experience managing and supporting Cisco routers and switches (IOS, IOS-XE, IOS-XR and NX-OS).

Extensive experience with

  • LAN switching topologies: 10/100 Ethernet, GigE, 10GigE, 40GigE, 100GigE

  • LAN switching technologies: STP, 802.1Q, LACP, RSPAN, MLAG, VPC

  • WAN physical protocols: HDLC, PPP, Ethernet

  • Routing protocols: mBGP, OSPF, IS-IS

  • IP Services: IPSEC, VoIP, SIP, IP Multicast, PIM, NAT, HSRP, VRRP, PBR, GRE, VTI

  • Other technologies: MPLS, QoS, WiFi

  • (Desired) Other vendors: Juniper, Arista, Palo Alto (Firewalls), F5 (Load Balancers)

Experience with scripting languages and tools UNIX/LINUX/SHELL/PERL/EXPECT/Python and Ansible playbooks.

Experience troubleshooting issues utilizing Wireshark or other packet capture and analysis tools.

4-6 years of experience with security solutions and products preferred. Functional understanding of overall computing environment (Network, Operating Systems, Client Platforms, Firewall, Cloud). Deep understanding and experience of implementing network solutions and services into a complex, dynamic technology environment.

Detailed oriented & analytical; organized with documentation and change management activities. Strong work ethic: ability to work independent of direct supervision. The candidate will work closely with the Labs Organizations (TechArch), Corporate Security (CSO), and Technology Planning and Engineering and Lifecycle Management to define requirements to ensure successful deployments of virtualized network solutions and ongoing maintenance of existing physical network elements. The scope of work will require in-depth knowledge of industry standards and best practices.

The Principal Member of Technical Staff position will require strong candidates who must be independent thinkers who will come up with ideas, not just be given ideas. Candidates must be able to work collaboratively within a small research group as well as with other teams such as Product Management, Network Engineers and Service Managers.

Entry into this title requires Technical Title Plan (TTP) Board Approval. This position requires an individual with proven technical skills within a specific technology discipline. Individuals attaining this technical level will have or be capable of exhibiting significant contributions in specific complex technical areas. Their contribution can be external to the company but shall be primarily internal. They shall be recognized in the company as a technical leader within a specific area and may lead projects of small to medium size and technical breath. In addition, the individual will have worked or be capable of working on projects of high complexity, where analysis of data requires in-depth evaluation of various factors, using knowledge and expertise derived from strong educational background and progressive experience. Education: Required: PhD, Masters or Bachelors degree in an approved field such as Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or Mathematics from an accredited university. Refer to the Technical Title Plan for a complete list of degrees.

Experience: PhD in an approved field with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience or Masters in an approved field with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience or a Bachelors in an approved field with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Technical Career Pathway (TCP) role. Entry into this title will require TCP Governance Board review.

Required Qualifications -

  • Candidate shall have a PhD in an approved field from an accredited university and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in an approved field from an accredited university and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree in an approved field from an accredited university and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience

  • Five or more years experience with networks, network protocols, and IP networks and at least seven years of experience with web development using PHP, Perl, Action script and Java programming through all phases of the software development lifecycle

  • A strong understanding of security technology in the areas of VPN, firewalls, proxy, and IDS/IPS as well as experience in Linux, Solaris and Windows

  • Candidate must have a strong communication skills both verbally and written as well as strong problem solving skills

  • Ability to balance and prioritize work and work independently and as part of a team

  • Previous experience as a system tester and experience in a lab test environment

Desired Qualifications -

  • CISSP, CCNA certification, or GIAC Certified Intrusion Analyst (GCIA)

  • Experience with any/all of following software tools: PHP, Perl, Action Script, Java, JavaScript, Linux, XML, CVS/SVN, Linux Shell Scripts, and Oracle

  • Check Point VSX experience

  • Crossbeam, Fortinet and Cisco configuration experience

  • TS/SCI Government Clearance

  • Network and Hardware support experience as well as database design

  • ISP Services Planning and Architecture

  • ICDS Service Planning and Architecture

  • ISP level data networks experience

  • Hands-on experience with performance and security test gear

  • Understanding of Internet security threats and mitigation techniques
