Turner Mining Group: Pit and Quarry Superintendent

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos, and write short correspondences and memos.

  • Proficient math skills, including the ability to perform operations using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to apply common sense to understand problems and develop and implement solutions.

  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one-on-one setting.

  • Must possess a current and valid driver's license.

  • Must pass a drug test and may be subject to medical exams and physical abilities testing.

  • Minimum of five years of experience with crushing and washing (Required).

  • Willingness to travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily safe and efficient operation of rock crushing and washing operations.

  • Participate in the management and oversight of the crew, including recruitment, training, and retention.

  • Responsible for maintaining the working condition of plant and support equipment, including servicing and maintenance.

  • Determine daily work schedules to meet production goals.

  • Coordinate and supervise daily activities of two to ten people, including an ongoing skills and safety training program.

  • Monitor material operation to ensure product quality.

  • Perform basic maintenance and service on plant as required.

  • Ability to weld using an arc welder or cutting torch is preferred.

  • Ensure control house and plant area is clean and secure daily.

  • Oversee truck scales and the loading of the trucks.

  • Record and report production information.

Additional Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Strong safety attitude.

  • Available to work 10-12 hr. shifts and Saturdays during crushing season as required.

  • Highly dependable, ability to work in a demanding environment.

  • Ability to operate and train others on crushing and washing equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, twisting, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, reaching, grasping, squatting, manipulative finger movements with both hands, use of wrists, use of both feet, use of arms above and below shoulder, work extended periods in the same position, perform duties in all climates i.e. weather, extreme temperatures, tolerate heights, lift and carry up to 50 lbs., work in confined spaces, capable of wearing respiratory and other personal protective equipment.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Operate the crusher through PLC automation and monitor conveyor belts and related equipment to crush and transport sand and gravel material to the appropriate location.

  • Operate/program the automated crushing and screening equipment for the pit/quarry.

  • Visually observe and monitor gauges and all equipment while in operation to maintain proper flow of material on belts, crushers, and screens.

  • Manage strong communications with all other plant employees to ensure efficient and safe workflow from quarry to crusher.

  • Identify appropriate material to produce quality aggregate material per job specifications.

  • Communicate with quality control personnel and make required adjustments to material blends.

  • Perform routine maintenance on conveyor belts and crushing equipment including splicing, replacing idlers, pulleys, drive belts, bearings, speed reducers, changing screens, cleaning, and lubrication.

  • Shut down equipment as required in the event of an emergency, blockages, or end of shift.
