Granville Medical Center Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner or PA-C in Creedmoor, North Carolina

Position Summary

The Express Care Advanced Practice Provider, (APP), Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, is part of an interdisciplinary team and is primarily responsible for treating urgent care and occupational medicine patients. The APP is responsible for examining and treating episodic illnesses, minor injuries, and work-related health problems, as well as performing specialized occupation health exams (including Department of Transportation (DOT) and Sheriff Standard fitness for duty exams,) collaborating with the primary care team and various specialists on an as needed basis.

The APP conducts physical exams, takes patient histories, orders and interprets diagnostic testing, provides treatment (including writing prescriptions), and documents patient encounters in the electronic health record. The APP responds to medical emergencies in the clinic and provides stabilizing treatment pending transfer to a higher level of care.

The APP performs routine clinical procedures as outlined in practice agreements/scope of practice, including, but not limited to, the following:

----Simple laceration repair with sutures, staples, or Dermabond

----Splinting fractures with the use of Ortho-Glass or commercially available Velcro style splint

----Foreign body removal

----Incision and drainage of abscesses

----Suture/staple removal

----Woods lamp/fluorescein examination

----Pelvic examination and specimen collection

----EKG interpretation

----X-ray interpretation (with radiology overreads available as needed)

----CPR and basic airway management

The supervising physician is available at all times for consultation, but the APP is generally expected to manage patient care without on-site supervision and be able to perform routine procedures without direct supervision.

The APP must have (or be eligible for) an individual DEA number and be able to prescribe controlled substances as needed and be eligible for credentialing with Medicare/Medicaid and third-party insurance payers.

Qualifications

  • Requires completion of an accredited nurse practitioner program with a Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing (MSN/DNP) or completion of an accredited physician assistant program with a Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies

  • Requires National Board Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) and ability to see patients of all ages

  • Requires an active, unrestricted license and approval to practice as an APRN by the North Carolina Board of Nursing OR a PA-C by the NC Medical Board

  • Requires specialized Department of Transportation (DOT) credentialing to perform DOT exams

  • 2 or more years' urgent care, emergency medicine and/or occupational medicine experience preferred.
