VF Corporation Vans: Site Merchandising Manager in Costa Mesa, California

As the Manager of Digital Merchandising, you will lead the delivery of a best-in-class digital experience for Vans. You will drive online merchandising strategies leveraging analytics to improve the overall customer experience across the North America websites (US and Canada) and mobile app. You will improve customer conversion, AOV and time on site by presenting Vans’ products in the right way, at the right time, and in the right combination. As a primary liaison between internal teams, you will collaborate closely with various departments to drive the success of our brand through effective digital merchandising, compelling creative content, and consistent, cohesive brand and product messaging. The position reports to the Director of Digital Merchandising & Content and is a hybrid position working 3 days at our Costa Mesa, CA headquarters and 2 days from home.

How You Will Make a Difference

What you will do:

  • Establish and manage an on-site product life cycle process.

  • Manage and review merchandise presentation on site to ensure categorization, imagery, badging, product knowledge and pricing are accurate and meet brand guidelines.

  • Consistent, daily maintenance of the online store, executing predefined product merchandising strategies.

  • Support weekly/monthly reporting efforts to include presenting a clear product narrative around results and recommendations.

  • Conduct thorough site analysis to identify areas for improvement, such as navigation layout updates, PLP optimization, refining site search, cross selling, and upselling tactics.

  • Complete focus and understanding of our product offering: sku count, top sellers, worst performers, our full price to markdown mix, depth of inventory, highest and lowest price points.

  • Manage key product categories utilizing customer behavior data, including product views, reviews, conversion, sell through, style and category penetration, AOV and AUR.

  • Partner and collaborate with our SEO and Consumer Insights team members to ensure product key words are injected across PLP’s and PDP’s and A|B testing opportunities are suggested.

  • Effectively manage communication with the Paid Marketing team to ensure campaigns are focusing on the right products at the right time.

  • Meet with Buyers and Merchandisers on seasonal assortment strategies to include attending seasonal go-to-market weeks.

  • Collaborate closely with Marketing, Retention, Creative and Performance Marketing to drive demand through compelling emails, digital ads, and web content.

  • Partner with Site Operations and Digital technology teams to ideate and deploy new features or tools aimed at boosting product sales.

  • Partner in producing PDP (Product Description Page) photoshoots aligned with brand aesthetics.

  • Liaise with Customer Service, Catalog and Consumer Insight teams on product feedback and reviews to improve the product information on site.

  • Lead and mentor merchandiser/s utilizing their strengths coupled with teaching/coaching as needed.

  • Working with cross-functional partners you will build product strategies to grow our online business. Additionally, you will be a partner with our technology team to develop optimal processes and features for back and front-end experiences.

  • Effectively and autonomously communicates data insights and proposes solutions to cross-functional teams and leadership.

  • Seeks new strategies to improve site experience and collaborates with team and cross-functional partners to execute initiatives.

  • Advocates for cross-functional initiatives and leads their function. Sets clear objectives, priorities, and metrics. Show ownership in execution and can keep cross-functional teams on course.

Skills for Success

Years of Related Professional Experience: 5+ years

Educational Position Requirements:

A formal education and subsequent undergraduate/graduate degrees are nice to have, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • 5+ years of experience in buying, planning, or merchandising (OMNI experience preferred)

  • 2+ years of management experience

  • Deep understanding of merchandising KPIs and how the user journey impacts those metrics

  • Knowledge of merchandising back-end tooling; how to leverage them to support business needs (exposure to Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Monetate, Bloomreach, Salsify a huge plus)

  • Experience with other eCommerce platforms (i.e., Shopify, Magento, SAP Hybris) a plus

  • Highly proficient in Google analytics, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Deep experience managing consumer goods in a lifestyle apparel and footwear market

  • Awareness of market trends, consumer tastes and has a discerning, elevated POV

  • Visual eye with the ability to curate strong assortments and site presentation; leveraging content to story tell around the product

  • Comfortable managing and analyzing large sets of data, summarizing findings into concise product narratives, and driving data-backed decisions confidently

  • Experience in a project management tool such as Confluence JIRA, Wrike, Asana

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and lead projects when necessary

  • Can manage workload independently and prioritize tasks

  • Process driven, detail oriented and a problem solver

  • Highly organized and methodical in approach with a proactive and curious mindset

  • Ability to implement and learn new systems and process with urgency

Hiring Range :

$90,720.00 USD - $113,400.00 USD annually

Incentive Potential : This position is eligible for additional compensation awards that may include an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential.
