The Clerk of the County Legislature also furnishes research, investigative and clerical support to Legislators as needed. The duties are primarily administrative, requiring the exercise of good judgment in dealing with the confidentiality of subject matter. The incumbent must be knowledgeable of legislative procedure and protocol. The work is performed under general supervision with leeway allowed for the use of independent judgment in carrying out the duties of the position. Does related work as required.Work Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week, with benefitsSalary: $49,781-66,258/yr. (Management Compensation Plan)Location: Cortland County LegislatureStatus: UnclassifiedBenefit: New York State Retirement System, Low Deductible Health Insurance Plan, Generous Paid Time off Including 13 Paid Holidays, Tuition Assistance available after one year of service. SUGGESTED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:(a) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s degree in secretarial science or closely related field and one (1) year of clerical experience which involved the operation of a computer for word-processing, database or spreadsheet applications; OR(b) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years of experience as defined in (a); OR(c)An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).NOTE: Degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If the degree was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, applicant must provide independent verification of equivalency.
