The Role

Proofpoint is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative, and technically experienced Director of Software Engineering with the ability to drive change and make things happen. You are passionate about building quality products, a diverse and collaborative team, and meaningful software products. The successful candidate will be part of our senior management team. We are looking for a leader to help steward our software development team on our continued path of growth and scalability.

Your day-to-day

• Lead an experienced team of Software Engineers by providing leadership, guidance and enabling the team to deliver to their full potential.

• Work closely with the Product, PMO and Architecture teams to create, innovative and deliver on roadmap within our regular release cycles.

• Drive the execution and delivery of features by collaborating with other teams.

• Lead change in seeking out continuous improvements and champion the adoption of best practices in our SDLC.

• Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, ownership, innovation, trust, and the continuous drive toward excellence to promote teams to be empowered to produce high quality results on schedule.

• Accountable for maintaining a high standard of product quality and code health.

• Manage, coach and mentor the team to help all with their professional development.

• Develop, maintain and publish project KPI’s that track project quality, delivery and predictability.

• Establish regular communication with the team and key stakeholders to provide project status updates.

• Identify risks, gaps or blind spots in your teams’ resources, skills, tooling, supporting information systems and action to close those gaps

What you bring to the team

• Extensive leadership experience in a software development environment

• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver on time, on quality, and on budget.

• Solid understanding of SDLC as well as expert knowledge of both agile and traditional project management principles and practices and the ability to blend them as needed.

• Prior experience with Scrum or Kanban

• Experience with Project Management tools such as Jira, VersionOne or equivalent

• Experience working on large-scale technical projects.

• Sufficient technical background to provide highly credible leadership to technical teams, and to objectively evaluate complex project issues and risks.

• Excellent communication & organizational skills.

• Proven ability to facilitate project meetings and follow-ups.
