J Y FERRY AND SONS INC Farm/Irrigation Worker (Temporary) in CORINNE, Utah

Temporary Need: 04/15/24-10/15/24. Five (5) full-time, seasonal, temporary Farm/Irrigation Workers needed. Requirements: Applicants must have 3 months experience with farm/irrigation work and provide the contact information of at least one reference who can verify experience and performance. Applicants hired must be able to obtain a valid drivers license as driving on public roads may be required. Be able to lift and carry 100 lbs. Location: Work will be performed in Corrine, Utah. Will work 48 hrs/wk, Mon-Sat. 7:00am - 4:00pm, hours may vary. Wage is $16.63/hr. Job duties may also require a split shift due to crop demands. Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of corn, wheat, hay, alfalfa, and grass. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to general farm work/irrigation/crop production. General Farm Work will include the following responsibilities: maintain, drive, attach, and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and harvest crops; make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery; may mix and/or spray chemicals (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable); remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds; paint/repair/maintain farm structures; replace/repair fencing; perform general cleanup of farm areas; drive, load/unload trucks; observe general condition of crops and apply the appropriate care; operate vehicle, motor bike, or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties. Irrigation duties will include the following: Pivots: operate, maintain and repair system. Flood Irrigation: lift gate in side of flooded irrigation ditch/pipe permitting water to flow into bordered section of field; shovel and pack dirt in low spots of embankment or cut trenches in high areas to direct water flow; close gate in ditch/pipe when bordered section is flooded; open gate or connect pipe to underground pipe system that releases water flow into reservoir or ditch; siphon water from flooded reservoir or ditch to channel water into designated areas; shovel or hoe soil to clear ditches/furrows and build embankments to appropriately channel water; mix and apply proper solutions to fill holes/cracks in pipes, ditches, and spillways, and make minor repairs to metal, concrete, and wooden frameworks in pipe and ditch valves and gates. Terms and conditions of employment: Will work in extreme temperatures, working in hot, dry, dusty, cold, sometimes wet and snowy conditions according to weather. Tools, room, board, kitchen facilities and transportation provided at no cost to workers. Must be able to provide employment eligibility documentation (I9 verification) upon hire. The employer will provide, at no cost to the worker, Workers' Compensation coverage or private insurance which is equal to Workers' Compensation laws for comparable employment. Applicants that have not worked in crop harvesting during the past twelve (12) months, up to two (2) references will be required. The employer guarantees to offer the worker employment for a total number of work days equal to at least 3/4's of the total work period beginning with the first workday after the arrival of the worker at the place of employment or advertised contractual first day of need. Whichever is later to occur, and ending on the expiration date specified. If the worker completes 50% of the work contract period, the employer shall pay the worker the cost incurred by the worker for transportation and daily subsistence from the place from which the worker has come to work for the employer. Subsistence costs will be paid at the daily rate of $15.88 per each 24-hour period of time that the worker is in travel status. A workers entitlement to reimbursement for reasonable subsistence costs in excess of the daily rate per day shall be limited to actual expenses not exceeding $59.00 p e day, based on receipts. The worker must produce receipts from commercial food establishments showing the amount spent for any food and non-alcoholic beverages, including tax. When required, transportation between the employer-provided housing and the work site will be provided by the employer at no cost to the worker. The offered wage equals or exceeds the highest of the prevailing wage that is issued and determined by DOL for the time period the work is performed (or whichever is the highest rate). This job is in connection with a future H-2A labor certification application.
