General Description (Purpose and Function):

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that conducts research on the prevention of health risk behaviors among Hispanic adolescents. Ideal applicants will exhibit strong dedication towards reducing health disparities and a commitment to populations that are underserved. The individual in this role will be a part of innovative and cutting-edge research being conducted within the South Florida community and beyond with a focus on overseeing and directing federally funded etiologic and intervention studies with prominent and internationally recognized leaders in the field of prevention science.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Overseeing of Assessment Activities (50%)

  • Oversees all assessment activities, including supervising and scheduling assessors, provide reports about assessment activities, troubleshoots ways to locate and assess participants.

  • Establishes and/or helps to establish relationships with community personnel to facilitate participant recruitment.

  • Interviews prospective assessors and makes recommendations to study Principal Investigators regarding hiring.

  • Oversees, evaluates and monitors on-the-job performance of assessment staff.

  • Reviews data collection procedures and ensures that these procedures are conducted properly (as well as problem solves potential errors in data collection).

  • Identify new strategies to maximize the efficiency of data entry.

Day-to-day Project Management (40%)

  • Coordinate day to day research activities for multiple projects.

  • Assists in publications and manuscript preparation.

  • Coordinates new employee onboarding and trainings.

  • Works with legal department in the preparation, definition, and signing of contracts with national and

international institutions.

  • Assist in the development, maintenance and tracking of research protocols, consent forms,

questionnaires, recruitment materials, study SOPs and regulatory binder documentation for local and

external sites.

  • Coordinate local and external sites to harmonize the implementation of study procedures.

  • Develop project timelines and utilize various project management tools and systems to track

and monitor project progress.

  • Manage clinical-research interface aspects of research studies.

  • Interface with human resources to post research vacancies, interview and select the final applicant.

Budget (2%)

  • Manage study funds, participant payments, and purchase of study supplies.

  • Monitor the study budget and make recommendations for cost reduction where possible.

  • Work with administrative staff to ensure that funding agency progress reports are completed on time.

  • Prepare budgets associated with the dissemination of study lab interventions

  • Assist with the management, planning and forecasting of project budget.

  • Interface with finance and administration units to outline contractual agreements for essential

services required by projects, such as biospecimen tests, health software, and electronic

compensations.

IRB Management (2%)

  • Handles lRB-related correspondence, including drafting initial protocols, renewals, and adverse event reporting.

  • Maintain regulatory documents and assist with preparations of reports to IRB, DSMB, and research team.

Contracting (4%)

  • Oversee that agreements with external service companies and consultants

  • Collaborate on project submissions to Latin American institutions interested in the UM-Familias Unidas

Intervention Program.

  • Manage compliance issues related to research grants and contracts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Research experience, ability to manage multiple staff members, and strong conflict resolution skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills required.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and knowledge of computers are essential.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (both written and oral).

  • Ability to demonstrate self-directed, collaborative, and low-conflict problem solving skills.

  • Ability to effectively delegate authority.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships and establish the highest level of integrity with others to coordinate work processes to meet objectives.

  • Ability to handle several tasks at once without becoming overwhelmed.

  • Direct yet compassionate communication style.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in social sciences preferred.

Work Experience Requirements:

  • At least two years of supervisory experience required.

  • Knowledge of REDCap software preferred.

  • This position requires a flexible work schedule with some weekend and evening hours.
