The University of Miami School of Law is seeking two full-time lecturers in our Legal Communication and Research Skills department. Candidates must have a J.D. degree from an accredited law school, excellent writing and analytical skills, and outstanding academic credentials. Preferred qualifications include prior teaching experience and experience in law practice or judicial clerkships; demonstrated legal writing and research expertise; strong interpersonal skills; a long-term commitment to teaching legal writing; and the ability to contribute through teaching and service to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence of the academic community.

Miami Law created the Legal Communication and Research Skills program, or “LComm,” in 2010. LComm is a required two-credit course in the fall and spring semesters of the first year of law school. The course introduces students to skills that are the foundation of successful lawyering: creating efficient research designs, conducting sophisticated legal analyses, drafting legal documents geared to the reality of practice, and becoming effective communicators. The course uses an intensive hands-on approach, with detailed individualized feedback, in-class activities, one-on-one conferences with professors, and other learning tools. The foundational course culminates in the spring semester with appellate briefs and oral arguments before practitioners and judges in the community. Each LComm faculty member teaches two sections of approximately 20 students.
