The Department of Communication Studies in the School of Communication at the University of Miami is seeking a full-time Lecturer to teach courses in our undergraduate and graduate programs starting in Fall 2024. The ideal candidate will teach a range of courses focusing on: Communication Theory, Public Advocacy, Research Methods, Writing for Social Science, Interpersonal, Public Speaking, and Business Communication.

A Ph.D. in Communication or closely related field is required for this non-tenured position, as well as a strong teaching record with a minimum of five years’ experience as an instructor at the university level. The Department of Communication Studies includes twelve full-time faculty with expertise in teaching and social scientific research focusing on intercultural, organizational, health communication, and public advocacy. Faculty empower students to develop advanced skills in cross-cultural communication, leadership, argumentation, oral and written presentations, critical thinking, research, and relationship building – skills that can be applied in any field or career. Undergraduate programs focus on four primary areas: Communication Studies, Intercultural Communication, Organizational Communication, and Public Advocacy. Graduate programs focus on the Master of Arts Degree, and a school-wide Ph.D. in Communication. Faculty lead their respective fields in research, health communication grants, professional organizations, and collaborations with colleagues and graduate students to expand knowledge in the area of communication studies. Students also participate in the department’s nationally ranked UM Debate Team.
