PONDERA COUNTY PT -SANITARIAN or SANITARIAN-IN-TRAINING in CONRAD, Montana

Pondera County is seeking to hire a Part - Time Sanitarian or Sanitarian-in-Training. This position will perform a variety of professional and technical duties relating to environmental health and sanitation. The goal is to help protect people and communities from public health risks by managing environmental factors that affect health, through programs and services, educational and training opportunities, by supplying timely and beneficial information, and enforcement of health, sanitation and protection standards as outlined by County, State or Federal guidelines. Basic duties include, but are not limited to, following generally-prescribed standards and procedures set by the Public Health and Environmental Health laws and rules of Pondera County and the State of Montana. For this position, the applicant must possess a comprehensive understanding of environmental health issues concerning the testing of public accommodations, food services, water, waste disposal, drinking water, underground storage tanks, land subdivision review, milk sanitation, air pollution, hazardous waste collection and disposal, as well as conduct site inspections of trailer courts, campgrounds, day-care centers, schools, swimming pools and spas, etcetera; issue permits, identify deficiencies or noncompliance, and recommend approval or denial of applications; and testify in court when required in matters relating to actions taken against violators of public health laws, etcetera. This work will be conducted in an office and a variety of other settings. Requirements: This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent. Evaluation of equivalency is a case-by-case process, but begins with 45 quarter hours or 30 semester hours in the physical and biological health sciences with specific courses in biology, chemistry and microbiology. The incumbent must have a current Montana license as a Registered Sanitarian (R.S.) or be able to obtain their license as an R.S. within 90 days of being hired. Must possess a valid Montana Driver's License.
