U.S. Army Corps of Engineers MAINTENANCE WORKER in Conchas Dam, New Mexico

Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Performs work incident to the construction of recreation facilities and the maintenance of grounds, buildings, roads, structures, facilities, recreational areas and the project dam and its appurtenances at a reservoir project. Responsibilities Perform periodic visual inspections and/or operational tests of dam and project equipment and facilities. Operate valves and/or gates of the dam to regulate the flow of water from the main dam and/or irrigation outlet works. Perform or assist other in miscellaneous trades work involved in the repair and maintenance of the dam and the reservation Operate stationary and mobile construction, maintenance and dam operating equipment. Maintain grounds and buildings in a clean and orderly manner. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MAINTENANCE WORKER without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Maintenance Worker duties. I can repair project grounds, facilities, and recreational areas. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Work requires heavy physical effort and the ability to perform heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over); use of both arms, both hands, and both legs; repeated bending and climbing (2 hours); continuous standing and walking (4 hours); kneeling and crawling (2 hours). Work also requires operation of equipment and motor vehicles (up to 4 hours), rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Works both inside and outside in varying degrees of temperature dependent upon work assigned; clothing becomes soiled quickly. Works in mud and water when required. Is subject to such hazards as working around moving machinery, working over water, working in cramped quarters, working on ladders, scaffolding, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, both above and below ground. Works with electrical, automotive and engineering equipment. May be exposed to excessive noise, dust, silica, asbestos, fumes, smoke, gases, solvents, grease, oil, and electrical equipment. Safety hats, safety shoes, gloves, rain gear, and life jackets are furnished to employee for normal activities. Respirators, face shields, eye goggles, and other equipment are provided for pesticide application, painting, welding, and other hazardous duties. May be exposed to poisonous reptiles, insects, or plants. Exposed to normal driving hazards. Blood tests are required prior to and following the use of any product containing a cholinesterose inhibiting material. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
