Prior Authorization Representative - Physical Medicine Requisition ID 2024-48688 Category Registration/Billing Overview The Prior Authorization Representative processes pre-authorizations in a timely manner and assures pre-authorizations are completed appropriately through communication with third party payers and clinics. When an authorization cannot be obtained, the representative must be able to guide staff, providers, and patients on the options available and complete the necessary steps to bring closure to the referral. Responsibilities * Participates in pre-authorization documentation process by obtaining, compiling, maintaining, and issuing necessary records and reports, ensuring accuracy of content and correct distribution. * Corresponds with third party payer to obtain pre-authorizations for ordered injections, providing updates as needed. * Reviews pending pre-authorizations and provides follow up. * Communicates to clinics when peer to peer is requested and reviews clinic progress on pre-authorizations that require additional detail for approval. * Provides additional information requested by Patient Accounts to assist in billing issues involving pre-authorization. Qualifications Education: * High school graduate, required. * Associates degree, preferred. Skills: * Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. * Ability to work and problem solve with minimal supervision and retain complex and quickly changing information. * Knowledge of the impact of the revenue cycle on hospital operations. * Familiarity with medical terminology. * Keyboarding, typing, data entry skills. Experience: * One year pre-registration, registration, admitting, or customer service experience, preferred. * One year of experience in billing processes and insurance verification, preferred. * Working knowledge of HIS Work Queues, preferred.
