Aston Carter Financial Accountant in Columbia, Virginia

Job Title: Financial AccountantJob Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Financial Accountant to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing financial records, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and supporting strategic financial planning. This role requires strong analytical skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments. The position includes managing the finances of two businesses: one non-profit and one for-profit entity.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and records for both businesses.

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable functions across both entities.

  • Oversee the general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial transactions.

  • Assist in budget preparation and financial forecasting for both the non-profit and for-profit business.

  • Conduct financial audits and ensure compliance with tax regulations applicable to both types of organizations.

  • Manage and file all monthly and yearly taxes for the Alcohol and Beverage Control Authority and the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau.

  • Manage and file all monthly sales tax reports and payments.

  • Manage and file all quarterly Transient Occupancy Tax reports and payments.

  • Process and manage weekly payroll for employees.

  • Manage and pay monthly utility bills for over 14 buildings on the property.

  • Reconcile bank statements and financial discrepancies.

  • Run business analysis on new revenue for event ideas.

  • Stay updated with financial laws, regulations, and best practices relevant to nonprofit and for-profit sectors.

Essential Skills

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, tax laws, and financial reporting for both non-profits and for-profits.

  • B.S. in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • Proficient in QuickBooks.

  • Experience in financial analysis, general ledger, reconciliation, and reporting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • CPA, ACCA, or equivalent certification preferred.

  • Understanding of the payment software Square.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

Work Environment

This is a fully onsite role at a sister company in Columbia, Va. The workplace is situated in the picturesque wine country of Goochland, Virginia, providing a scenic and tranquil environment. The role offers diverse responsibilities, including managing financial records, budgets, and transactions related to wine sales, events, and rentals. There is a strong sense of community engagement with numerous events throughout the year, such as weddings, festivals, and wine tastings. The position offers growth opportunities in areas like event management and hospitality, alongside accounting duties. The vineyard also provides unique accommodations like cabin and train car rentals, adding interesting challenges and experiences to the role.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $90000.00/hr.
