Amergis Tax Accountant in Columbia, Maryland

The Tax Accountant is responsible for accurate and timely preparation and filing of various business tax returns including sales & use, gross receipts, business licenses, unclaimed property and other similar type taxes in states and local jurisdictions. The Tax Accountant reports to the Tax Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares work papers and calculates tax liabilities

  • Prepares and timely files sales and use tax and/or business license applications and renewals

  • Prepares and timely files unclaimed property returns and due diligence/search letters

  • Responds to unclaimed property claimants timely and professionally

  • Prepares check/EFT requests for tax payments

  • Keeps current with tax legislation and assesses applicability

  • Under supervision, responds to and resolves OpCo (e.g. internal company) inquiries

  • Under supervision, responds to and resolves tax jurisdiction notices and/or inquiries

  • Reconciles general ledger accounts

  • Assists with audits, as needed

  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; preferably in Accounting, Finance or Tax

  • 1 year of corporate experience is preferred but not required

  • Candidate should have developing interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and desire to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment

  • Detail oriented, organized, and able to multi-task and meet deadlines

  • Proficiency in the English language is required

  • Willingness to take ownership of work

  • Enjoys collaborating in a team environment

  • Some experience in Excel, Word, Outlook
