In this exciting role, you will perform T2T genome assembly and bioinformatic analysis of mammalian genome sequences, utilizing both published and newly generated DNA sequence data. You'll have the opportunity to develop new approaches and analytical pipelines for comparing and visualizing genome alignments and create novel comparative genomic applications to identify candidate disease regions and regions of adaptive significance. Additionally, you'll oversee and supervise other scientific staff and mentor Ph.D. students in the laboratory. The Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences ( VMBS) (http://vetmed.tamu.edu/) is an institution that represents 100 years of growth from a small school of veterinary medicine in 1916 to its present role as a major veterinary educational, medical, and research center. Opportunities to Contribute

  • Bioinformatics: Conduct bioinformatic analysis of mammalian genome sequence data using computer software for genome assembly, sequence alignment, QC, phylogenomic, and molecular evolutionary analysis.

  • Mentorship: Mentor postdoctoral staff and graduate student researchers.

  • Grant Writing/Preparation: Develop and prepare text and budgetary information for grant proposals and review draft proposals for accuracy and content.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Genetics and Genomics

  • Three years of post-graduate work in bioinformatics and developing analytical pipelines.

The candidate must possess relevant experience in mammalian comparative genomic analysis and satellite biology as demonstrated through high-impact publications in peer-reviewed journals.

A well-qualified candidate will also possess

  • Ph.D. with relevant experience in whole genome assembly of mammalian genomes.

  • Experience with comparative genomic approaches.

  • Experience with feline genomics and biology.

  • Experience in satellite structure, function, and evolution.

  • Proficiency with programming in Python and R.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

    What You Need to Know

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected hire’s education and experience

Schedule/Location: This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends and may require up to 5-10% or more travel.
