County of Northumberland Laborer in Coal Township, Pennsylvania

The Northumberland County Weatherization Department is currently seeking a Laborer II.  This Full-time position comes with a full benefit package including health insurance, prescription, vision, dental, vacation, holiday, sick, personal time, and retirement.

GENERAL DEFINITION

Under general direction, performs manual duties related to performance of construction and maintenance of houses, buildings and bridges.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

  • Moves, stacks, counts, sorts and cleans building materials, tools and other related items.
  • Receives and carries out assignments made by a supervisor.
  • Work in and out of doors in all types of weather.
  • May be required to be on ladders, scaffolding or other raised work area.
  • May be required to perform dirty, smelly or otherwise unpleasant tasks.
  • May be assigned to control traffic at job site.
  • May cut brush, clean or paint areas.
  • Works with skilled laborers, assisting them in doing their tasks and in doing other tasks to compliment their work.
  • Does responsible work, fitting, cutting, shaping and finishing final products.
  • Works on straightforward but intricate tasks requiring some discretion to complete.
  • May be called on to fix or repair simple machines or structures without extensive direction.
  • Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • General knowledge of care, safety procedures, and operation of construction tools, hand tools, and small power equipment.
  • Ability to perform physical labor with self-initiation.
  • Able to work near potential hazards without injuring self, citizens or other employees.
  • Able to lift heavy or awkward articles and perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to understand simple verb all instructions.
  • Ability to take some responsibility for quality of work product and method used to complete job assignment.
  • Knowledgeable in the types and uses of various building and maintenance materials.
  • Able to read measuring devices and other instruments.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • May be required to have a valid Pennsylvania operators license.
  • Some experience or aptitude for construction, maintenance or repair work.
