Cleveland Clinic Traffic Control Officer in Cleveland, Ohio

A Traffic Control Officer directs traffic, provides traffic control at crosswalks, city streets and parking garages. In addition, issues warnings, notices and parking citations on behalf of the Cleveland Clinic and respective municipality.

Responsibilities:

  • ​Under police supervision, directs traffic and provides traffic control at crosswalks on city streets to prevent congestion and expedite safe and orderly movement of traffic.

  • Directs traffic and provides traffic control for Cleveland Clinic special events and other incidents where traffic management is required.

  • Assists police officers with traffic control at Cleveland Clinic parking garages and surface lots.

  • Creates and issues warnings, notices, or parking citations per Cleveland Clinic and municipality guidelines.

  • Patrols Cleveland Clinic parking garages and surface lots on foot or in a vehicle, uses radio to report status and problems, request information, and obtain instruction from supervisors.

  • Reinforces the smoke-free policy with Cleveland Clinic patients, visitors, guests, and employees while on Cleveland Clinic property.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Must successfully complete all Traffic Control training and follow the guidelines as mandated by the Cleveland Clinic and respective municipalities.

Certifications:

  • Must have a valid driver's license (VDL), obtain and maintain eligibility of insurability as determined by Cleveland Clinic Hospital insurance carrier's requirement to operate Cleveland Clinic Health System's vehicles.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Experience working as a municipal Traffic Control Officer preferred.

  • Experience working in an officer capacity within a hospital security setting is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Full body mobility, agility, physical strength and stamina sufficient to assist police officers with medical emergencies and subdue criminal suspects as required.

  • Must be able to drive a vehicle for 60 consecutive minutes.

  • Must be able to stand outside, for up to 8 consecutive hours, regardless of weather conditions.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
