Cleveland Clinic HVAC Temperature Controls Technician III in Cleveland, Ohio

The HVAC Temperature Controls Technician III inspects, repairs, maintains, and troubleshoots Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems throughout the facility. This role is responsible for compliance requirements related to temperature, humidity, and air change rates associated critical and noncritical areas within the hospitals, ambulatory buildings, and other buildings.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes the building management system (BMS) to address customer service requests, adjust temperature set points, and start and stop equipment.

  • Responsible for increasing the efficiency and performance of air handling units (AHU), chillers, cooling towers and pumps through use of the BMS and maintaining the equipment.

  • Performs maintenance on equipment and systems such as chiller systems, reheat systems, variable frequency drives (VFD), air handling units (AHU), humidifiers, dampers, heating and cooling coils, cooling towers and pumps throughout the facility.

  • Maintains inventory and records for sensor and control devices related to digital and pneumatic systems.

  • Troubleshoots, analyzes and advises on system malfunctions and operational requirements.

  • Ensures safe and effective operations and working environment.

  • Receives and responds to work orders from the automated work order system and responds to alarms, sensors, and alerts appropriately.

  • Work may occasionally be assigned across multiple Cleveland Clinic locations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Certifications:

  • Tridium Niagara 4 Technical Certification Program (TCP) certification through Tridium required or the ability to obtain within one year.

  • Valid driver's license and insurable driving record.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics and sequences of operation.

  • Advanced understanding of the tools and techniques used to maintain, diagnose and repair HVAC systems, using specialized tools to inspect, test, adjust, and balance systems.

  • Proficient with the Building management systems. (direct digital controls, pneumatic, or analog/electric)

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong customer service background and teaching skills.

  • Advanced computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

  • Understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management Software.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with all of the following systems: chiller systems, reheat systems, variable frequency drives (VFD), air handling units (AHU), variable air volume systems, humidifiers, dampers, heating and cooling coils, cooling towers and pumps throughout the facility and installation, maintenance or repair of Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems, Building Automation Systems (BAS) and pneumatic systems.

  • Working knowledge of buildings systems, piping, blueprints, electrical circuits and schematics.

  • Experience in Testing, Adjusting and Balancing (TAB), preferred.

  • Military experience such as Utilitiesman (UT), Machinists Mate (MM), HVAC/R (3E1X1), Utilities Equipment Repairer (91C), Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, & Refrigeration (3E1X1) or similar will be considered.

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands require full body motion including ability to perform work while bending, stooping, stretching and climbing ladders.

  • Requires dexterity and strength sufficient to operate required tools and machinery.

  • Typically required to lift and carry machinery and/or equipment weighing 25 to 100 lbs. and/or assist with lifting weights exceeding 100 lbs.

  • Ability to work at heights and on ladders.

  • Ability to work in confined spaces.

  • Requires color acuity sufficient to distinguish color-coded signage and systems.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
