HX5LLC Electrical Space Propulsion Engineer in Cleveland, Ohio

Electrical Space Propulsion Engineer Electrical Engineer V NASA Glenn Research Center Cleveland, Ohio HX5 is an award-winning provider of engineering, research and development, and technical services to clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. HX5 is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team in Cleveland, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC). Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The selected Electrical Engineer will provide engineering support to NASA GRC in support of the advanced sub-kilowatt Hall-effect propulsion system (thruster and power processing unit) capable of a game changing 140+ kilogram of xenon propellant throughput. The technical advancements demonstrated in sub-kilowatt electric propulsion performance and lifetime will enable the next generation of NASA deep space science and commercial small spacecraft missions requiring large total impulses. The technology is anticipated to improve the cadence, reach, reliability, and cost of NASA small spacecraft science missions. Required Skills: Must have at least 10 years of professional power electronics design experience, of which at least 5 years are working directly in the design, fabrication, and test of spacecraft electric propulsion power processing units (PPU). Strong understanding of the EEE part selection, qualification, and derating guidelines in NASA's EEE-INST-002 standard. Prior experience in performing EEE part stress and derating analyses as well as worst case analyses. Must have proficiency with LTSpice or Simetrix/Simplis for simulation development of power converter transient behavior. Other Desired Skills: Experience with embedded systems programming of micro-controllers or FPGAs for control and monitoring of high reliability power conversion systems. Proficient in the usage of Altium Designer version 21 or greater, along with the design standards associated with IPC-2221 and IPC-2222. Ability to read and create engineering drawings for power converter assemblies. Education/Experience: Electrical Engineering degree (preferably from an ABET accredited program) with the following years of experience: Bachelor's degree with 20 years of experience Master's degree with 15 years of experience Other Position Requirements: Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position. Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
