Cleveland Clinic Cancer Research Administrator in Cleveland, Ohio

As a Research Administrator, you will be responsible for the financial and managerial leadership necessary to optimize both growth and maintenance of a compliant research program and assuring compliance with internal and external reportage agencies. Your primary duties will include:

  • Developing and maintaining an effective organizational structure.

  • Overseeing implementation of contracts and agreements within the institute.

  • Participating in process improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides financial and managerial leadership necessary to optimize the growth and maintenance of a compliant research program.

  • Participates in process improvement initiatives.

  • Develops and maintains an effective organizational structure.

  • Leads workflow assessment to optimize program processes and operations, including management and utilization of research support personnel, research space and research equipment.

  • Oversees implementation of contracts and agreements within the Institute.

  • Develops and implements quality assurance/compliance program for the Institute.

  • Facilitates strategic planning and operational implementation.

  • Leads the Institute in planning and preparation of proposals for federal agencies and non-federal agencies.

  • Provides analytical and financial support in pre-award proposal processing, contract and grant administration, and budget development.

  • Manages post-award proposals of diverse scope (complex contracts and grant requirements) that may involve multiple investigators, complex budgets and/or multiple sub-awards.

  • Administers and monitors contract and grant awards, including sub-contract/sub-award administration in collaboration with Office of Sponsored Research & Programs.

  • Supervises research personnel, ensuring orientation and training, performance management, and career development.

  • Maintains professional relationships, including frequent and open effective communication with internal and external customers.

  • Oversees the research budget. May negotiate industry sponsored research budgets.

  • May serve as primary contact for investigators, regardless of funding source, to facilitate research project development, processing and approval routing through the appropriate central research administration offices and systems.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Science or a related field required.

  • Advanced degree in health care, science or business preferred and may offset some of the experience requirements.

  • Requires knowledge of budgeting, cost analysis, manpower planning, supervision and operational analysis.

  • Ability to direct and evaluate the efforts of others.

  • Demonstrates basic computer proficiency.

  • Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge and recognized expertise in research.

  • Exceptional organizational, communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.

  • Is self-directed with demonstrated ability to effectively lead a multidisciplinary team of professionals.

  • Displays a thorough understanding of the research process and terminology, and in-depth knowledge of the specialty under investigation.

  • Oversees adherence to federal regulations and good clinical practices (GCP).

  • Within 90 days of hire, must successfully complete certification in Human Subjects Research (HSR) as required by the Responsible Conduct of Research guidelines adopted by the Cleveland Clinic.

  • Continually demonstrates competency with defined requirements for the position as established by Cleveland Clinic.

Certifications:

  • None required. Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) or Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) Certification preferred.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires excellent interpersonal, organizational and management skills, critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and problem solving with a demonstrated ability to lead a team of professionals.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of eight years progressively responsible health care, research, or other relevant supervisory or managerial experience.

  • Advanced degree in health care, science or business may offset some of the experience requirement.

Preferred work experience:

  • Cancer clinical trial research experience is highly preferred

  • Strong leadership experience managing larger teams

Physical Requirements:

  • A high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a computer.

  • Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

  • Extensive sitting and frequent walking, occasional lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds.

  • May have some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.

  • May require working irregular hours.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $44.53

Maximum hourly: $67.92

The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. While the pay range is displayed as an hourly rate, Cleveland Clinic recruiters will clarify whether the compensation is hourly or salary. A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set, and education.
