The Sherwin-Williams Company Associate Platform Engineer in Cleveland, Ohio

The Associate Platform Engineer role is responsible for supporting platform configuration within the current technology environment. The role involves collecting system performance data and setting-up DevOps tools to assist in maintaining the hardware, software, and network infrastructure that is critical to the company's user populace and application environments. They share updates during meetings with other IT professionals such as Application, Architects, and Database Engineers to provide support in the effective working of all components. The Platform Engineer conducts research on leading practices, makes efforts to understand platform vulnerabilities and gathers technical knowledge of both traditional and modern platforms to assist in the smooth functioning of the company's infrastructure. Contribute to build and maintenance of platform hardware, software, and network requirements in alignment with business needs and the defined organizational standards Analyze system performance data and report findings to senior team members Set-up DevOps tools (such as API Gateway, Teraform) and perform basic customization tasks to support processes as per organizational needs Support other platform engineering team members, DevOps engineering, and production teams with updates to platforms and environments Develop templates and scripts to assist in implementing and maintaining automated fulfillment mechanisms to optimize delivery of key platform services Identify the tasks and impacts of other teams that work with a platform and understand their requirements to ensure smooth operations Conduct penetration tests to help identify security threats Conduct research for leading practices on security and resiliency policies, standards, and procedures, and draft potential compliance issues Gather and organize technical information necessary for creating design documentation Collect data on incident reports/problem descriptions and categorize user requests for new/modified systems Participate in vendor discussions to stay informed about the latest vendor matters and support updates internally Education Required Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or in lieu of a degree, at least 2 years of experience in the role of Platform Engineer or related position Knowledge & Experience 0-2 years of experience in platform engineering and infrastructure components Familiarity with automated interaction with physical infrastructure Familiarity in managing and maintaining cloud-based environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure Basic knowledge of monitoring and log management tools such as Nagios, Splunk, and ELK Familiarity in developing and implementing backup and disaster recovery strategies Solid scripting experience in languages such as Python, PowerShell, and Bash Basic knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, and Terraform Technical Skills Programming Languages Cloud Technologies & Platforms Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) DevOps Methodology Software Packaging and Deployment Procedures Operating Systems Network Operations, Configuration, & Services Containerization Monitoring and Logging Integration Technology This position is not eligible for sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, including conversion to H1-B visa. This position works in the office three days a week and is eligible to work remotely two days a week.
