JOB TITLE: * Teacher Consultant/Specialist for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing*

DEPARTMENT: Special Education

REPORTS TO:  Assistant Superintendent for Special Education

FULL TIME - SCHOOL YEAR POSITION with generous benefit package. $8,000 SIGN-ON BONUS   SALARY RANGE:         According to the Terms of the Master Agreement for AFT Contract.

 

JOB SUMMARY: To provide direct or consultative educational services regarding hearing loss to hearing impaired students, suspected hearing-impaired students, and their teachers in support of their placement in general and/or special education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned by Administration.

  1. Follow all established policies, practices, and procedures in terms of duties and responsibilities of the position as delegated by the Assistant Superintendent for Special Education or delegated supervisor.
  2. Participate as a member of IEP team when appointed by the Assistant Superintendent for Special Education and/or delegated supervisor.
  3. Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team and where appropriate, serve as team leader to provide assessments of academic achievement, language, educational performance, and gather necessary medical information for students suspected of being deaf or hard of hearing.
  4. Assume responsibility to refer students for audiological evaluation and assists with interpretation of results.
  5. Develop an annual individualized education program for each student determined to be eligible for services as hearing impaired.
  6. Develop and implement objectives based on assessment information and IEP team recommendations.

``` 7. Provide consultation services, as requested to all students, parents, educational personnel, and others. 8. Communicate evaluation results to parents and appropriate school personnel. 9. Maintain student records in a manner consistent with State and Federal laws. 10. Provide in-service for general and special education teachers on use of individual student and classroom modifications required by the student's IEP. 11. Maintain dialogue with classroom teachers and/or educational tutor/interpreter's progress of students, and assists in their acquisition special techniques, materials and/or devices. 12. Provide pre-referral consultation to local district personnel. 13. Collect, inventory and maintain individual and classroom hearing amplification equipment. 14. Effectively manage time and energy to assure completion of all responsibilities within required timelines, including Medicaid logging. 15. Adhere to district policies and procedures. 16. Establish and maintain open communication with all parents, staff, administrators and outside agencies involved with the students. 17. Is knowledgeable concerning administration of medication, health care procedures and maintaining appropriate medical records and follows district procedures. 18. Maintain all aspects of confidentiality as it pertains to students, families and other protected information. 19. Stay current and informed of developments in own and related fields of Special Education. 20. Perform other assigned duties and responsibilities not in conflict with Board policy, conditions of employment, and as outlined in the negotiated Master Agreement as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Special Education and/or delegated supervisor.
