Join our team of innovative problem solvers dedicated to tackling some of the most complex global challenges. DuPont has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Process Development Engineer in the Vespel®, R&D group within the Electronics & Industrial business, located at Circleville, OH .

Vespel® polyimides and composites are best-in-class materials that provide continuous operation at cryogenic to high temperatures; low wear and low friction; exceptional dimensional stability and easy machinability. Highly demanding applications like aerospace components, semiconductor processing, automotive manufacturing, and energy production rely on Vespel® parts to keep their equipment running. Vespel® R&D group is responsible for continuous improvement in performance of our materials, developing next generation applications as well as process innovations in manufacturing resins, parts and shapes.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct experiments to develop polymer manufacturing processes, ensuring effective scale-up and optimization.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, quality assurance, and manufacturing, to develop and refine processes from lab scale to full-scale manufacturing.

  • Analyze process data to identify areas for improvement and develop action plans to enhance productivity and product quality.

  • Conduct process risk assessments and participate in the development of mitigation strategies.

  • Coordinate pilot-scale production runs to validate process changes before full-scale implementation.

  • Document procedures and generate reports on process developments, presenting findings to stakeholders.

  • Stay current with industry trends and innovations in polymer manufacturing and processing technologies.

  • Lead projects aimed at raw material qualification and risk mitigation, ensuring supply chain reliability.

  • Guide and mentor junior team members, fostering an environment of learning and professional growth.

  • Document research work in internal technical reports, patent disclosures and external publications in a timely manner.

  • Define and direct lab research work as needed with associate chemists and engineers to ensure project success.

  • Network within the DuPont organization and external networks to identify potential technology leads and new innovations.

  • Promote and uphold safety as a core value by implementing safety protocols in all procedures and processes to ensure a safe working environment.

Required Qualifications

  • A MS/Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a related field with at least 2 yrs of process innovation/development/improvement experience.

  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience in specialized technology areas relevant to process development.

  • Proven track record of safe laboratory practices and methodology.

  • Understanding of polyimide chemistry, processing, manufacturing and characterization.

  • Experience in leading teams and projects, demonstrating strong leadership and coaching abilities.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the capability to analyze complex issues independently and apply new perspectives to existing solutions.

  • Ability to document and communicate research findings effectively for both technical and non-technical audiences.
