Description Regional Safety Managers ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations within assigned areas. This position implements, directs, and monitors safety initiatives to promote and create a safe working environment. Regional Safety Managers ensure adherence to safety standards and the development of safety goals and objectives. This position reports to the Area Safety Manager. Responsibilities of Position: Manage the day-to-day safety operations of the region/location and provide leadership and support to managers in ensuring safety standards are met. Develop, implement, direct, and monitor safety initiatives to promote and create a safe working environment. Promote growth and continuous improvements to safety. Direct and facilitate accident investigative process, root cause analysis & follow up for motor vehicle and industrial situations and oversee closure of corrective actions. Develop and maintain management of loss prevention program including claim resolution. Plan and administer departmental budget and maintain cost effectiveness. Conduct ongoing health & safety inspections of facilities, operations, equipment, and processes to ensure compliance of Corporate Safety, environmental, and governmental (DOT, OSHA, local agencies) policies and regulations. Maintain a working relationship with Human Resources and Worker's Compensation administration. Develop and interact daily with Sub-contracted employees and services to ensure DOT compliance. Work with other managers to develop safety programs and awareness. Compile reports and update action plans. Lead efforts to develop and facilitate all market training needs and maintain appropriate documentation. Oversee drug testing program including regulated collection and processing of samples. Interact with all levels of management to develop site-specific programs including training programs. Review trends and keep current with regard to technical and regulatory issues for employee health and safety. Provide leadership and a positive work atmosphere exhibiting professional conduct with open communication that promotes positive relationships with customers, clients, co-workers, and management. Formulate short- and long-term goals and action plans with the Area Safety Manager and the Regional Vice President. Prepare and present reports as necessary. Perform all tasks in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies. Comply with and enforce company policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned. Skills & Abilities Needed for Position: Understanding of DOT and OSHA requirements. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have a strong background in dealing with people under difficult circumstances. Excellent computer skills in a network environment; proficient in Windows and Microsoft applications; AS400, and Lotus Notes applications a plus. Proven track record of successful project and personnel management as well as leading teams to meet/exceed goals. Must possess strong planning/organizational and time management skills. Knowledge of the waste industry and hauling operations. Additional Working Conditions/Aspects: Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas. Exposure to residential and commercial waste. Ability to travel between offices, as required. Ability to work flexible hours; overtime, weekends, and/or holidays. Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays. Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls. Legally eligible to work in the United States. Valid driver's license (if applicable).
