Job Description
Support the design and construction of automated equipment to improve multiple manufacturing processes, utilizing knowledge of DFM and DFA to collaborate in the creation of new process technology, and improved product designs and materials while supporting production goals, safety, quality, cost, and delivery. A focus on continuous improvement and automation is required. This position will report directly to a Manager Advanced Manufacturing and provide support to all Electronics and Controls facilities, contract manufacturers, and suppliers in process improvements.
Ability to lead projects with basic supervision/guidance. In addition to automation/robotics, should have working knowledge in 1 or more of the following processes: Electronic, Machining, Stamping, Turning, Welding, Testing, and Assembly.
Job Responsibilities
Define, measure, analyze, and improve existing or new manufacturing processes using automation and controls engineering techniques (PLCs, data base management, etc.)
Design automated manufacturing and testing equipment for new product development/introduction, capacity growth, and efficiency improvements.
Responsibilities consist of:
Controls and pneumatic system architecture design and layout
Electrical panel development, design, and layout
Assist in the assembly and qualification of automated manufacturing equipment consisting of:
Basic mechanical and pneumatic assembly of automated equipment
Electrical wiring of controls (plc, servo motors, digital/analog input/outputs, HMI, etc.), robotics, and accessories through a list of cables and schematics.
Modify cable list and schematics throughout project
Cable management and cable termination with welding and pressing tools.
Participate in project team activities; team may include manufacturing engineering functions only or cross-functionally to include members from product planning, procurement, quality, operations, industrial engineers, maintenance, and suppliers
Troubleshoot, investigate, and resolve current process issues related to tooling, materials, manufacturing processes, and automation
Continually improve process capability (Cpk) and process efficiency or OEE of assigned processes while supporting quality, cost, delivery, and safety
Implement lean production principles to create or improve material flow
Utilize lean, six sigma, DOE, principles during improvement activities
Develop, maintain, and standardize process documentation
Continually seek new technology opportunities
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering field (Mechatronics, Electronics, Electrical, or Electromechanical Engineering) or equivalent experience
3 + years’ experience as an automation engineer
Basic experience in implementing industrial automation-based projects
Experience with high-volume automated manufacturing process
Must have project planning skills to prioritize tasks and establish framework and systems for managing areas of responsibility.
Experience to create Electrical designs, schematics, and drawings in 2D and develop electrical and pneumatic bill of materials.
Skills in 3D modeling and 2D drawings (NX & DraftSight preferred)
Basic knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
Must have good written and oral communication skills
Ability to work with Multifunctional teams
English 75% skills required
