The Senior Engineer I, Civil Engineering, is responsible for providing support to utility-scale Solar, Onshore Wind, and Battery Storage Projects in North America. They act as Civil Subject Matter Experts for Projects during the Development and Construction phases.
Role Responsibilities:
Perform due diligence on early to mid-stage development projects (including potential project acquisitions) in order to identify fatal flaws and key design risks
Manage the studies needed to de-risk projects and allow detailed engineering designs to progress. This includes topographic and ALTA surveys, hydrology studies, and geotechnical surveys
Review all aspects of the civil design for projects to ensure that all site constraints are factored in and applicable standards and best practices are followed
Provide civil quantity estimates for Pre-Construction to price and include them in financial models
Provide input into the civil scope of work for balance of plant agreements
Evaluate opportunities for optimization to reduce LCOE
Support Construction by responding to RFIs and ensuring timely and cost-effective resolution to roadway, drainage, geotechnical, and structural engineering issues
Assist with civil, geotechnical, and structural documentation of construction activities. Respond to technical questions from potential investors and independent engineers
Create internal standards and manage process improvement intitaives
Travel for work up to 20%. Includes periodic site visits to microsite layouts, attends monthly construction meetings, and monitor construction progress
Job Requirements and Experiences:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited school (or substantially equivalent). A Master’s Degree is a plus
Minimum 8 years of civil engineering experience with at least 2 years of utility-scale renewable energy experience. Solar experience is a plus
Professional Engineer’s license in one or more states is a plus
Experience reviewing civil design packages
Experience with grading design and earthwork analysis
Knowledge of stormwater management regulations and best practices
Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or GIS software is a plus
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Enjoys working in multidisciplinary project teams in a dynamic environment
Must have a valid driver’s license
This position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWECE offices and field locations
Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time
Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in Illinois is $105,000 - $157,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
